Media Encoder inherits the wrong Sequence names for the Output Filename

Hi, I'm running Premiere and Media Encoder Version 24.3.0 on Windows 11.

I'm having a strange issue where if a Sequence in Premiere has been renamed at any point (for example 'Amazing_Edit_V001' to 'Amazing_Edit_V002', whenever I go to export that sequence using Media Encoder, it sets the default Output Filename to the previous sequence name,  'Amazing_Edit_V001'. Regardless of whether or not I shut down all the programs or even restart my computer after renaming the sequence. It was always inherit the original sequence name. This will also happen if then rename the sequence again to 'Amazing_Edit_V003', it will still maintain the original 'V001' filename when sent to Media Encoder.

I should specify that this only applies to the 'Output File' filename. It correctly recognises the the sequence name as the source name on the left.

Issue: The Sequence is named 'Spring Movie' but when exporting to Media Encoder the Output file name is 'Winter Movie'

Steps: Im thinking it has something to do with maybe because I started with the 'Winter Movie' created a Duplicate, and then Renamed 'Spring Movie' ...maybe?  Thats what I did here... does this happen everytime? No, and I do quite frequently Duplicate/Rename Sequences.

OS: macOS Sonoma 14.5

Hi @leftrightbrain - Can you let us know which version of Premiere Pro you are using?  You say this happens sometimes but not all the time.  We haven't been able to reproduce this issue on our end.  If you are able to provide specific steps to reproduce it that would be extremely helpful.  Sorry for the frustration, and thanks for your patience

I am having the same issue and its incredibly frustrating.  I need to duplicate sequences as they are setup as templates.  However when I change the sequence name, it exports it in Media Encoder to the original seuqnce name.  This is definitely a bug that needs to be fixed.

It's been a little over a year since I originally posted this. I've changed several components in my PC and even done a full system reset, and this is still a persistently re-occuring issue. Now though, with the addition that when I send a single sequence to Media Encoder, Media Encoder imports it twice, it also completely ignores the sequence out point of the sequence I'm exporting and instead just sets it's own out point at whereever it was when the sequence was initially created through duplication. 

• Issue – When I duplicate a sequence within Premiere Pro, rename it, to continue working on it as a different/newer version of the edit, and then export that sequence via Media Encoder, Media Encoder correctly recognizes the current name of the sequence as the source name, but keeps the name of the sequence that it was duplicated from as the default output filename. Furthermore, it also ignores the any change in the sequence out point from when it was duplicated, and keeps the outpoint at where it was for the old sequence, at the time of duplication. This doesn't always happen, but if I'm working on the same project for more than a few days it will start to happen at some point.
• Steps to reproduce – 
  • 1. A sequence has been worked on, exported and sent to client and they've come back with notes. I duplicate the sequence, to keep a copy of what the client has seen, and append the filename of the new duplicate sequence (e.g. from _wip_01 to _wip_02), and work on the client notes on the newly created duplicate sequence.
  • 2 When I'm finished with the client notes, I send the sequence to Media Encoder so that I can export it and send it to the client.
• Expected result – When the sequence appears in Media Encoder, it should automatically be suggesting the output filename to be the same as the current sequence name, and it should recognize the curren and IN/OUT points on the sequence.
• Actual result – The suggested output filename and IN/OUT points are those of the previous sequence from before I duplicated it. Once this starts happening, it never stops. It doesn't matter how many times I duplicated the sequence. I've gone up to wip_23 before and it's still inhereting the output filename and IN/OUT points from wip_01
• Screen recording – 
• Adobe Premiere Pro version – Version 25.2.4 (Build 4) But this issue has been persistent since early CC2024
• Operating system – Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.4351. But this issue started when I was running 22H2. Also when I updated to 23H2. I have completely reformatted my system, and the current OS was a clean install of 24H2.
• GPU driver version (Windows only) – NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060Ti - Studio Driver 576.02. Again, have tried multiple versions of Studio and Game Drivers. No change.
• Video format – I predominantly work with ProRes and H264 footage. But regardless of the source or export formats the problem is the same.
• Comparative information 
  • It affects all projects, but not from the very beginning. It usually begins after the project has been going for a few days. I've not been able to determine an exact trigger point.
  • It doesn't happen if I export multiple sequences at once to Media Encoder
  • It doesn't happen if I export directly from Premiere (But the Export page completely kills my two screen layout, disappearing whatever is on the screen that doesn't contain the Export window, meaning I have to completely quit and reopen Premiere every time I export this way. Because, the Export page is a practical joke that Adobe loves to inflict on us all.)
• Full System Specs:
  • AMD RYZEN 9 3950X 16-Core CPU
  • ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING Motherboard
  • ASUS DUAL/NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3060 Ti OC V2 LHR - 
  • CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX 128GB (4x32GB) DDR4 3600 (PC4-28800) C18 1.35V Desktop Memory - Extensive diagnostic tests with MemTest and similar tools showed no problems.
  • OS and Applications installed on C: - Samsung SSD 980 Pro 1TB - Health Status Good
  • Projects and Files on D: - Samsung SSD 870 QVO 2TB - Health Status Good
  • Adobe Caches all on E: - Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 1TB - Health Status Good

Issue
When sending a sequence directly to Media Encoder, sometimes the sequence name will not be transferred correctly. Instead the name of another sequence is inserted.

Steps to reproduce
Unfortunately I didn't have found a way to reproduce the issue.

It seemingly happens randomly. One sequence is named right, the next is wrong.

The sequences were send directly from the timeline panels using the shortcut.

The bug seemingly does not occur when (batch) sending sequences through the project panel (right click -> Export Media...)

Expected result
When sending a sequence directly to Media Encoder, it should take the sequence name as file name.

Actual result
The name of another sequence is inserted, althought the name of the sequence is visible at the header line in Media Encoder.

Possible fix

This problem wouldn't be as bad if we finally had wildcarts for filenames. This way, I wouldn't have to change every other name manually (special characters in the sequence name could be replaced by a custom legal character - sometimes Premiere just discards all characters behind a point, although it's a legal character, being another problem when trying to export certain sequences).

Placeholders that would be great are: 

• Sequence name
• Resolution
• Aspect Ratio
• Frame rate
• Frame count/Duration
• any (custom) Metadata field

Especially batch exports would benefit from this.
