P: Specific Presets do Not Save when I exit and return from the application (PREMIERE PRO)

  • February 6, 2023

Summary of the issue:

When I import specific effects presets in Premiere Pro, they do not save after I exit and return to the application. While some effects within the preset do save, certain specific ones, such as the "shake" effect, are not saved.

Steps to reproduce the bug:

  1. Import a custom preset that includes multiple effects, including the "shake" effect.
  2. Exit Premiere Pro.
  3. Open Premiere Pro again and check if the effects have been saved.

Expected result:

All imported effects, including the specific "shake" effect, should be saved and available when I reopen Premiere Pro.

Actual result:

The "shake" effect (and some other specific effects) is not saved, even though other effects within the preset are retained.

Additional information:

  • I am not using any third-party plugins or panels.
  • Please find my system specs and exact Premiere Pro version below: Windows 11, Premiere 24.6.1.

Hi @João Vitor Lindo,

Thanks for posting all the details. Is it possible that these presets contain effects that were in the Obsolete category? If so, that may be at the heart of the issue. Please check and let us know.

Thanks,
Kevin

I recently updated to version 25 after I updated After Effects, not knowing it would be incompatible with my current version of Premiere, so basically FORCED me to update to the latest version. Since doing so, a lot of effect presets I previously had saved in Premiere have just disappeared. I can import and then use the presets fine, but frustratingly, any time I close and re-open my project they disappear again and I have to re-import the presets. The only answer that seems to exist was on another forum post, which is now dead. I'm currently using Windows 10.

Everytime I close premiere pro (2024) any preset I have made disappears from the preset ben in the effects tab. So for example if I use gaussian blur and make a preset out of it, it will appear in the Presets ben, as it is supposed to. Then when I restart Premiere, it is no longer there. This just started happening on the latest update. I have tried:

  1.  Dumping cash from everywhere
  2.  Reinstaling Premiere
  3.  Putting made presets in a folder in the presets ben
  4.  Praying...

No joy on any of the above.

Any thoughts?

Every time I close Premiere Pro my presets vanish. I've looked at multiple other posts and other "solutions" and none of them work. I've turned off my cloud to see if it was a syncing issue (it's not). I've moved the "custom effects and presets" into a new folder; and made a "test preset" to make a new custom effects file, imported my own presets, closed the app, re-opened it, and they still vanished. I've looked at every single "solution," and tested every single solution, and none of them worked. I have NEVER had this issue for the past 3 years until the most recent update. I've been trying to fix this ever since August. It's getting real tedious and infuriating having to re-import my presets every single time I edit a video. It disrupts my workflow and annoys me that I can't have my own custom-made presets (and third-party presets) readily available when I need them. Please tell me how to fix this or if there even is a fix. I've provided a video that shows exactly what I see every single time I load back into a project.

Somehow, those are being 'seen' by the program. Which can be either it doesn't know to look where you are putting them, or a permissions issue, where Premiere can't access that file.

I've had permisisons issues in the past, and it was a dang nasty thing to get sorted completely done. In my case, it involved an update to Microsoft OneDrive ... where it took over all my 'user' folders.

After figuring that out, I tried multiple setting changes to OneDrive, none worked. Finally, I had to nuke OneDrive itself. And it took something like three days to actually KILL the blame thing.

But once gone, gee, my Adobe apps, presets, keyboard shorts, custom workspaces all worked perfectly again.

So ... sometimes ya gotta look around a bit. Sadly.

There are several PRFPSET fx presets that disappear in Premiere everytime I restart the program. While my text/transition presets are unaffected, 90% of my 3rd party shake presets disappear. I have tried following instructions from past threads about importing them to a new bin and renaming it, but that hasn't helped. All of my presets are saved locally on the same SSD premiere is installed on. This is a new issue for me as of the last 1-2 weeks.

Imported Preset "Ultimate Earthquake" (Before Restart)

Imported Preset, moved to new bin and renamed

Imported Preset (After Restart)

My other shake preset pack disappears entirely on restart. I also tried moving the "Ultimate Earthquake" preset pack into an entirely different new bin that isn't parented under anything else, but no use either. Interestingly enough, I named the new bin "NEW NEW NEW", and when I reopened premiere it was changed back to "presets bin 01".

So I have installed some effect presets from other people online. I am able to import and use them normally. I saved the project and closed Premiere. After opening the project again, all the presets were gone.

I reinstalled premiere twice and reset all my preferences multiple times.

Why do the presets not stay saved and I have to reimport them everytime i open a file

Yes, known issue: put them in a custom bin then they will stick.
