Have you tried a brand new project, @rachelcenter?

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks for writing in, @rachelcenter. Thank you, @stevenprobets, for alerting us about the bug, as well. I hope an engineer will respond shortly. Sorry for the frustration.

I wonder if anyone else in the community has seen this bug. @Stan Jones, have you come across this one yet? Sorry folks, I hope they can get this fixed for you soon.

Cheers,
Kevin

It happens when I create a new project and my files/project are set to auto transcribe on import - it will crash during the process after a min or so. If I cancel auto transcribe in preferences and just do it manually per clip it's fine.

I do agree its longer ones when you have many clips to do. I had about 30 clips to transcribe when the crashing started.

@rachelcenter @stevenprobets,

Long shot possibility. I discovered what I would call a "hang," not a crash, but a problem is causing a range of issues in 25.0.0 and I assume in 25.1.0. See this thread regarding D2D Drawbot errors:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-bugs/p-transcription-leads-to-errors-video-artifacts-gli...

The range of issues with transcription includes:

1 - Transcription does not start (either no dialogue box or no start after getting the "Create transcription from source media" dialogue box opens)

Example:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-bugs/after-update-premiere-pro-25-transcript-not-working...

2 - Transcription hangs without crash with or without transcription finishing

The D2D Drawbot issue above appears to fall in this category. But when I could recover the screen enough to save the project, it showed that the transcription had completed.

3 - Transcription crashes, with or without crash report pop-up and with or without transcription finishing

This current thread falls in that category

@Kerstin Ebert @alexander-riss

Stan

Edited to add "with or without transcription finishing" to #3.

I also have this problem. It's happened on my last 2 projects that I started as new projects.

@Luke Mallinson,

See the newer thread that addresses this, and give us more information: OS? What is your workflow and what happens?

Also having this issue, so frustrating. MacOS Seqouia 15.1.1 (24B91), M1 Pro. Only been happening for last 2 months or so.

Initially noticed it in v25 as soon as it upgraded. Installed v24 again, but the problem persists. It's almost certainly during transcription, especially when multiple clips are being transcribed. It seems better when transcribing individual clips one-by-one.

Have turned off auto-transcribe now and will see if it changes anything.

@kieranbd,

See my post above, regarding one odd possibility (drawbot errors). Do you have the Progress Dashboard open when you transcribe?

What version of PR - 25.0 pr 25.1?

Does it just hang or crash?

Is the transcription finished when you reopen the project?

@Stan Jones:

  1. I have the Text window open, not sure if that's what you mean by Progress Dashboard?
  2. v24.6.4 build 3
  3. App crashes completely
  4. Yes, transcription finished when I reopen project

@kieranbd,

The Progress Dashboard is an icon in the upper right of the UI. If the DrawBot error is the problem, it appears more of a hang than a crash, but it may also crash at some point. The first screenshot is of the Progress Dashboard closed, with no activity occurring. The second is closed with activity. The drawbot issue occurs if it is Open.

See this post for links to 2 staff posts for a special uninstall process that apparently helps some transcription problems.

@Stan Jones I never open the progress dashboard, and PP still crashes immediately as transcription hits 100%. Uninstalling does not help.

Thanks for checking. It was a long-shot! I still suspect multiple causes.

@Kevin-Monahan This is happpening in Premiere 24 as well.  Transcription crashes Premiere.   Often times it gets to the end of a clip then crashes.

Same here, Premiere is constantly crashing on all of my projects when transcribing clips or sequences. Is there any fix?

I am using Premiere 25.1.0 on macos sequoia 15.2. on a macbook pro max m2 32gig ram.

No matter what I try: auto transcription on or off, transcribing a sequence with clips in the text window or a bunch of clips by right-clicking - premiere always shuts down after some time and lets me send an error report to adobe. I did this about 30 times now. Will there be a solution?

I completely reinstalled premiere twice and deleted any remaining folders, wiped the media cache.. even in a brand new project batch transcribing a few clips leads to a crash. Does adobe ever read those error reports created on a crash, I sent it 40 times now and added my mail address but no response ever.

@Peter Reef,

Thanks for the detail you are providing.

Staff look at crash reports. It is unusual for them to contact you, but it has happened a few times for me over the years. It is common for staff working with you to access the report if you have included your email.

When you refer to deleting additional folders, were these the folders described in these 2 links?

Thanks for your help @Stan Jones . Yes, as I am working on macos I looked into my applications folder and after uninstalling premiere there was no folder left.
I just installed the latest beta and here transcribing seems to work, however I wouldnt like to start editing a large documentary in a beta version. Is there any chance that a bugfix to the latest stable version will be added?

@Peter Reef,

> Is there any chance that a bugfix to the latest stable version will be added?

I am not confident that there is only one source problem, and that reduces the chances of all these issues being fixed soon. But we haven't seen posts from staff indicating where we stand on what may be one or more fixes.

I agree with your caution regarding using the Beta for production work. I would consider doing the transcription in the Beta, then exporting the transcription and import to the Release version project. You could also do this in an earlier version if you have one installed. If not, currently, you can install version 24 along with 25.

I can just open the project in beta and in the stable version without conversion. Do you think there could be issues if we switch the version during the edit?

@Stan Jones Indeed, the project can be opened in both versions, are there any knows issues going back and forth?

As the beta eliminates some other issues as well I would prefer to start editing with the beta and go back if necessary.

For example using BCC effects seems to work with Slog3 footage in a rec709 timeline - in the stable version doing so clips the highlights of the clip..

I guess there will be issues if I use new features like magic extend? Can the project still be opened in the stable version if effects like these are used? Will those features then just vanish or will the project be unuseable in the other version?

Today new project and imported MOV rushes. I transcribed them all. Then I added to a sequence and syncd all the MOVs (37 of them) with the audio WAVs which are seperate files.

I then duplicated the timelines 10 times. I went to the Text panel and it opened a text panel and a panel called UXP Panel 3 - no idea what that is! Nothing in that panel. Went to the text panel and it asked me to transcribe the WAVs and I said yes. After a minute it crashed.

Reloaded up Premeire and asked me to transcibe 19 wav clips (the others were done) I cliecked yes and it crashed again.

My workaround was to transcribe it clip by clip.

It needs fixing and wastes so much time if you don't know why it's doing it!

Thanks
