If a file (asset) in a premiere (2024) project is changed, for example if a video file used in Premiere is updated (same title, same length, same attributes, same location), Premiere no longer recognizes the file and lables it as missing media. The replace footage function must now be used. This has nothing to do with 3rd party apps or anything other than straight Premiere Pro normal function.
you are right! yikes. I just did a test to verify and can confirm the behavior on Windows - I also have a mac and will test there. Seems that premiere must also be doing some type of metadata matching and not just using filename/location.
