Premiere Pro - Type Tool and Captions

Hi guys,

I'm having trouble with using the Type Tool and the Captions within the Text Panel.

This has happened in the past couple of days or at least, it's when I have noticed.

When the Type Tool is selected and when I click in the Programm Panel, like usually to type text nothing happens.

A red line now appears at the top and across the said panel. I am still able to drag a box but nothing happens after that.

Likewise with the Text panel and the captions. When I create a new caption track, and create a caption, I am able to create it and type in it, but nothing appears.

I've tried uninstalling the 25.1 version and re-installling - Nothing.

I've tried installing the 25.0 version and the same problem - Nothing.

I've tried creating a new project and opening an older project - Nothing.

Lastly, I have also tried turning my Mac off and turning back on - Nothing.

In the 24.6.4 version, it works but ideally I'd like to be using the most updated version.

I would appreacite any help, screengrab provided.

Cheers

Felipe

Hi @felipemdlima -  Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.
Please see, How do I write a bug report?

from your screenshot it looks like you have the program monitor selected but since you don't have any text written with the text tool then you need to select the text box.

Can you try holding down "Shift" while opening premiere and select the checkbox
"Reset App Preferences" (Backup your settings before doing this)

@felipemdlima,

This was an issue for some conditions, but fixed by now.

Your second screenshot still has the graphics item selected, and we can't see the caption properties. I would like to see those.

@felipemdlima,

Thanks for the screenshot. I do not see any of the problems I was considering.

A next step is resetting preferences as @jamieclarke suggests. Let us know what you see.

@jamieclarke,

The single word "Text" is in the caption. Unlike regular (video track) graphics text, the text layer for a caption does not need to be selected in the Properties panel for its properties to be selected. Selecting in the Text panel or the Captions track is enough. And we can see that the caption/text properties are shown.

There is no Video layer other than a graphics item. From the earlier screenshots, it is the letter "T" with the layer not selected and then selected. It is white text. I wondered if a caption in black text might not show. But the caption fill is white. And the Graphics text is also not showing.

The only bugs like this that I recall should be fixed in 25.x.

Hi @felipemdlima ! Another user reported that reinstalling their GPU drivers had solved the issue. Any chance you also have an RTX 4090?

See post here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/erros-con-graficos-esenciales/td-p/15175147

Could you also please answer this question: did this problem start appearing in the same Premiere Pro version where it had worked before? Then that is infact pointing to something outside of the app. Or did it start happening with a Premiere Pro update?

Hey @felipemdlima,

@Stan Jones pointed me to this thread with the same issue,  please try reinstalling your GPU drivers after trying @jamieclarke's suggestions and let us know if that does or does not fix the issue.

Thanks!
Theresa

I am having the same issues with text not showing up in the program monitor.  I'm operating on Sequoia 15.3.1 on Premier Pro 25.1.  I have tried the following and nothing has helped.

  • I've tried uninstalling the 25.1 version and re-installling - Nothing.
  • I've tried installing the 25.0 version and the same problem - Nothing.
  • I've tried creating a new project and opening an older project - Nothing.
  • Lastly, I have also tried turning my Mac off and turning back on - Nothing.

My Mac says I'm all up to date but cannot find the GPU to update?

Looking for help.

Does this happen with every font or only specific fonts?

This happens with all fonts. I have opened older files and all of my type is gone as well.

More questions:

1. Did this start failing after it had been working in the same version? (e.g. did it work fine before in 25.0 and 25.1 and just started happening pretty much out of the blue one day?)

2. Did you install or sync fonts before it started happening?

It just started out of the blue last week. I have auto updates on and
didn't notice if a recent update had been completed. but happened on a file
where all of my text was there then the next day it wasn't. (even on old
files)
