since I updated to 25.5 the application won't even launch. I am working on a MacBook Pro 16", Nov 2024, Sequoia 15.6.1

Can you try and hold down "SHIFT" while launching Premiere and check the boxes
"Reset app preferences" (Backup Preferences first)
"Clear media cache files"
"Reset plugin loading cache"
"Disable third-party plugins (one-time only)"
