Spacebar not playing back video immediately

Simply put, when I'm editing I need to be able to hit the spacebar as I have for decades and the timeline just play instantly on the timeline. But recently that changed. Now as I'm trying my best to get into the editing zone when I hit the spacebar to play in the middle of editing the sequence it just does not play. I wait, nothing, I hit it again nothing, the third time it plays. This IS xxx TORTURE.

I need to be able to edit. I am literally paying for software that is literally preventing me from making money and debiliting my workflow with bugs not found in FREE software like Davinci Resolve. Why is adobe forcing me to move???

It was reported like a week ago and I AM STILL HAVING THIS HELL OF A PROBLEM. When I am editing I need the play button to work the first time NOT THE THIRD.

I'm literally editing a project I started in 2021 that I haven't touched since then. I edited the entire project over 2 years ago without any problems but for some reason 2 years later Adobe Premiere is worse than it was then. AND in 2022 I used 2021 Premiere because of a bug that plauged the software causing me to only use the 2021 version. In 2023 I tried updating and the 2022 bug was gone but the Photoshop crashing Premiere bug surfaced and of course the font bugs have been there for I don't know how many years.

This is absolutely very poor progress with adobe. They're adding new features and can't even get the most essential, core features stable. Meanwhile free software is blowing them away.

@JeffreyAdams do you have any third-party playback hardware in use? Could you share screenshots of your Preferences > Audio Hardware, Preferences > Audio, and Preferences > Playback? In some cases having misconfigurations there can cause issues like what you're describing.

I'm also curious if you start a new empty project and import a few clips to a sequence, do you still see this delay in playback? Or is it more common in your more complex in-progress projects?
