Adjustment Layers, can scale be used?

Hi all,

I'm having trouble understanding the rules concerning the adjustment layers. I have applied one to my sequence, I can change lighting and colour effects, crop and rotation. But when I change the scale, it has no apparent effect. If I re-add the BASIC 3D to the adjustment layer, the scale option is missing. It is possible to change the size in screen using "Distance to image" but is this the only way?

An AL is for applying the same effect to multiple clips at the same time and they affect the layers below.

You can but you should imo not use the motion parameters of an AL.

As for the 3D effect maybe add that on straight to the clips or nest first.

Hi Ann, thanks for your response.

The reason I'm looking at AL and scale is that I sometimes like to do a slow move into a variety of stills. AL seemed to be the easiest way to do this on paper. I'm not a huge fan of nesting my clips.

I come from an Avid background, where I would apply a 3d warp on the highest layer of the timeline.

I assume if you were trying to attain the same effect, you'd nest your clips and then put on a slow move.

Yes you can do it. You will find an effect called Transform in the Distort category. If you apply this effect to an adjustment layer, you can do a scale to underlying clips.

Don't use the native Motion controls of the adjustment layer, use the Distort effect instead.
