Hello,
I just started with Adobe Premiere and unfortunately I can't use it.
Whenever I drop a File from the Media-Browser into the Source-Window and keep on working in the Media-Browser the program hangs up instantly and shows the "rolling ball". Sometimes it hangs up while trying to drag&drop even the first file into the Source-Window. The program isn't reactiing and only a restart helps. So it is not possible at all to use the program. I tried to disable the Hardware GPU and I re-installed Premiere. None of these steps helped with the problem
I would appreciate a fast solution for this problem.
Here is my configuration:
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)
macOS High Sierra (10.13.2)
3,4 GHz Intel Core i5
24 GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Radeon Pro 570 4 GB
Thank you!
This is being investigated. So far, I have seen this issue only occur on Mac OS 10.13 (could not reproduce on Mac 10.12 nor Windows) with the Media Browser set to Thumbnail View and Hover Scrub enabled. Possible workarounds are to disable Hover Scrub in Thumbnail View (right-click on Media Browser tab and uncheck Hover Scrub) or set the Media Browser to List View.

I have been having the same issue with my 2017 15" 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7 Macbook Pro with 16GB Ram. I have noticed when you click on a file to import Adobe starts creating a "Peak File" in the bottom right corner of the screen. Peak files deal with audio stuff. If you let the peak file generate before you try and import it, it keeps the crash from happening. Further... If you shut off "Automatic audio waveform generation" under the Audio option in preferences it keeps Adobe from creating the peak file in the first place. Having turned that setting off I have not had a crash since. I still give my computer plenty of time to work things out internally before dragging my files to my bin or directly to my timeline. This has haunted me for weeks... Adobe please fix this!!!

Hi James,
thank you für your answer. Unfortunately turning off "Automatic audio waveform generation" doesn't fix the problem here. What do you mean by:
<quote>If you let the peak file generate before you try and import it, it keeps the crash from happening. </quote>
Thank you
Timo

Hi Trent,
thank you for your answer. Disabling "Hover Scrub" seems to get rid of the problem. I would appreciate if you could give me an update, wenn the problem is fixed.
Thank you!
Timo

This fixed it for me. I'm in High Sierra, and have had SO many freezes since I updated Premiere. My crashes or freezes always stemmed when my curser was over the project window or media browser.

Same here! Happening exactly the same way on my brand new MBP and 2013 iMac. I bought a brand new hard drive because it thought that was the problem and no luck.
I literally cannot get any work done and the newest premier install, v.12.0.1 does NOT fix the problem.
Adobe must address this ASAP.

I fixed it by adjusting the memory allocation on my Mac High Sierra. The crash reports on Console seem to indicate a shared memory issue. Using PP preferences for memory, I reduced the amount reserved for PP by about 25%. In my case, that's a reduction from 58GB RAM to 44GB. No crashes since I made the change.
