Audio cutting out during playback in latest version of Premiere

Plays for a bout 4-5 seconds then audio drops for a second or so. The level meter actually drops to zero in Premiere.

I've tried using MP3's instead of WAVs - that didn't work. It also does this on raw camera audio as well as imported clips. I've tried rebuilding the project (but cut and pasting the sequences) and still the same.

Cutting Canon Raw Lite files - these have worked seamlessly up until now.

Mojave 10.14.4

Macbook Pro 2.9ghz i9

32GB Ram

Radeon Pro Vega 20 GPU

Copied everything from 200mbs G tech drive to internal SSD and the problem has gone away. I don't believe the issue can be a simple Wav file buffering off the external HD when the RAW video is playing fine.

any ideas? I won't have the luxury of cutting off my internal HD that often...

I think the issue was because you might have not cleaned Media Cache.

Whenever you upgrade and try to open an old project in the newer version try to clean Media Cache folders. You can Check the location in Premiere Pro>Preferences>Media

OK that sounds like it could be the problem. I have gone to the preferences and deleted 'unused media' but the problem still remains.

Do I literally go into finder and delete the files manually? If so where do I find them? In the Premiere preferences it says they are in a library folder inside my user account on my mac but I don't have a library folder in the place it says it currently saves them too...maybe that's the problem.
