Hey all- I am trying to figure out a way to create an EDL out of Premiere Pro for use in ProTools that will be able to include more than 4 audio tracks. Has anyone figured a workaround for the fact that Premiere only offers the option to create CMX 3600 EDLS's that only includes metadata on the first 4 tracks?

Is there a reason you want to use an EDL over using an OMF transfer into Pro Tools?

Yes- We are using a conform software that uses the EDL to conform all of the 5.1 surround tracks to the ProTools session. That way the Premiere Pro editor doesn't have to work with all the surround tracks but the ProTools editor has access to all the surround tracks.

I have not done an EDL to ProTools transfer, but . . .
can you send the EDLs 4 audio tracks at a time and have the multiple EDL's combined in Pro Tools - for example send one EDL with tracks 1-4, another with tracks 5-8?

Thanks MtD- That is actually what we are doing now. I was just trying to figure a way to avoid making the 2 EDL's.

You can avoid 2 edls by taking A5-8 and moving to end of sequence on A1-4. Start on next round minute (or hour even). Mixer just reverses that after conform.

Sorry, haven't used an EDL in many years and never in PPr. Although one suggestion might be to find an app that does export more audio channels (avid/Resolve/reaper/?) and rinse through that.
A neater option might be to rethink the workflow in a way that all the audio makes it to protools, even if not used in timeline. Mixer should then be able to 'expand regions', and see production tracks other than that used by editor. This is where OP-atom, where audio files are seperate to video, can be useful in Avid.
