Audio Track Mixer "MASTER" grayed out

When I go up to the Audio Track Mixer, it doesn't allow me to change the slider volume for the "master track".   Any idea why?

nevermind.   I found the solution.    I had the "master track" in the timeline locked.  didn't realize it.
