Automatic scaling of a preset

Hi All!

This might be a stupid question, but I am a rookie and just starting to discover the sheer endless possibilities with PP! Let's say I have a 4K sequence and have created a nice preset on an adjustment layer, saved it for later to use on other transitions or clips. Now, my next project might be a 1080p Composition and I would like to use the effect preset on my new HD comp.

Is there any way of scaling this down from 4K to HD? So it doesn't lose the look?

Thanks so much for your help!

Oooooookay, So I figured out what I did wrong. Some effects are not being affected by sequence size, and others are.

Of course, a "magnifying" effect, for example, needs to be scaled in half when applied to an HD sequence. I cant come up right now with a comprehensive list of which effects are being affected and which not, but I would say just keep that in mind when creating your own Presets. Thanks a lot for all your comments!

A preset is not depended on resolution.

What kind of preset did you make?

So it doesn't lose the look?

What look?

As for scaling in the Preferences under Media there is a setting for default scaling.

Thanks for your Reply Ann

Below the screenshots of both the 4K comp and the HD comp with the same presets applied to corresponding Adjustment layers. I created the "Preset" in a 4K sequence.  The HD one is magnified.....

Might need to change the order of effects.

or place directly on clip or nest.

if you created your adjustment layer while selcting your 4k sequence,

and dragged the same adjustment layer from the project panel

to your HD sequence, it will still retain the dimensions of your 4k sequence.

simply right click on your adjustment layer in your HD sequence and choose

scale to frame size. or create another adjustment layer while having your HD

sequence selected. whenever you create a new adjustment layer, a pop up

will show where you can see and change dimensions and settings.

Note that some complex presets might not work properly using adjustment layers,

and you might need to apply directly to clips or nests.

Yes i created the preset within a 4K sequence and saved it as a preset. Then I open my HD sequence in another project, create an AL (1920x1080) and apply the preset to the correctly sized AL. Still doesn't appear correct. It is zoomed IN on the effects as you can see in the pics above. Tried to rearrange the effects, tried to nest, tried on clips directly.....

For that sort of thing, I would create the preset ... and reuse that preset from the Effects panel rather than by drag/dropping the AL with that included onto another sequence.

Use saved ALs on sequences the same frame-size just works better. Drag/drop effects directly from the preset bins you setup for this.

I don't drag and drop from one sequence to another. Always choose the preset fresh from my effects panel on the correctly sized AL in my sequence....
