backing up scratch disk

Do I have to backup my scratch disk such as the render files etc? If for some reason my scratch disk become corrupted or fails can the scratch files repopulate when you open the project again if you assign the scratch disk to another drive later? Just trying to figure this out in case I don't need to waste space on my backup drive backing my scratch disk up.

They will be re-created by PP when you re-open the project. It is a good idea to keep your cache images cleaned up - saves a lot of disk space and helps with performance

maybe you can explain why premiere is creating blank audio and video preview folders? I have like 4 projects where under the audio and video preview folders it's just duplicating the folders such as "concert copy1, concert copy2" etc but nothing is in the folders. All those .PRV folders are blank. Why is it doing that? I don't even have all those duplicate projects either.

Folders are created for every project you save, whether or not there is anything to put in them.

Then, I have no explanation.

But those folders are safe to delete.  Premiere Pro will recreate preview, cache and scratch as needed.
