Blank space in video

Hello, I have a spot in my video where a student walked in front of the camera. The professor I'm working with wants me to completely cut the section out of the video where the student walks through the scene in front of the camera. I'm open to any suggestions as to how I could fill this spot of film. I was trying to put in a quick dip to white or dip to black in between the blank spot, but it seems to last too long. There's a section of audio inbetween the cut video that needs to keep playing. Looking for suggestions, video provided of what's going on below.

Split the video a frame before the gap.  Move the in point of the second clip so the gap is gone.  So basicall you have two clips with some space between where the gap was.  Now right click on the first clip and go to time>freeze on last frame then move the out point to meet the in point of the second clip.  So now the video will just freeze for the duration of time where the person walked in front of the frame.

Now you can add any type of transition you want like a spiral or card flip or anything visually interesting.

To keep the audio going you'll first have to shoot off a render that's audio only so you'll have a separate audio only separate layer that plays uninterrupted.  Hope this all makes sense.

Thanks for the quick reply Gutterfish.. I think I got the gist of what you were saying. I provided a screen shot to show what I did following your directions. I only did one thing different, I use the export frame tool instead of the freeze duration tool, because I haven't quite figured out the freeze duration tool and always have trouble with it, but I don't think that's too big of a deal? I made a still of the last frame before the space blank space and the first frame before the clip picks back up. I haven't added any transitions yet, was going to do that after I got an OK from you. Ah..I'm an idiot.  I see you're using Premier.  I'm moving this thread to the Premier forum .   It already has been

But yes you got the idea.  Apply the transition over the span of the frozen frame.  It's not perfect but it's better than fade to black or white.  If you want you can even do it in two or three more places in the video to make it seem intentional and also to break up the monotony of just looking at static camera shot the whole time..if it is indeed a static camera

There's the Morph cut also, for a transition, etc... but I like Jim's suggestion of using a bit of B roll on it
