Cache location! Is there a fix for this that actually works?

I have read all the posts about Premiere's cache location and fixes. Some posts point you to a dead link, others tell you to delete the existing cache on the C: drive, Change it in Premiere to the new location, Reboot, Load Premiere with default preferences.

After buying a NVE SSD 1Gb just for cache about a year ago. I still have never had this work. From Premiere Pro CC2018 To current 2020. Tried all the suggestions but still no mater what I end up with it creating a cache on the C: drive as well as SOME (very little) files on the new location pointed to.

Is there a FIX that actually works? Does anybody know of it?

Thanks Tony.

Did you set the new location in the Preferences/Media Cache?

Of course, this is the whole point. It never works no matter what guides I follow.

Set the cache in Premiere and the other abobe programs. Close the programs, delete the existing cache. Reboot, Load Premiere with Default preferences. Nothing works. Tried every method I have read about so far and it seems I am not alone? This is why I am asking whether there is a method that works? And if so what is it?

Thanks.

...Load Premiere with Default preferences...

If you do a setting to any of the settings in Preferences, including Media Cache loacation, and then load Premiere Pro with the default preferences all settings you have done in the Preferences dialog will be the just that, iow the default settings. The default settings is to have the Media Cache Database and Media Cache Files on the C-drive.

So if you want the settings to stick, don´t load the default preferences after you have made changes to the Preferences.

Yep, agree, thought of that and tried that. Makes no difference. It still creates a new Media Cache folder on the C: drive even with my Premiere Preferences pointed to the new location.

Further I have just found an article that states that even when the location of the cache is changed, ims files will still be created and stored in a Media Cache Directory of the Root C: drive?

I can confirm what you see. I did some tests and manually deleted everything related to Media Cache on the C-drive and on my J-drive. I get two new folders named Media Cache Files when i launch Premiere Pro, one here C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common and one here J:\ZZ_Adobe_System_Files.

In C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache Files all i get are the .ims-files.

Personally i think this is a bug that should be fixed since it clogs my C-drive with unwanted files, plus that using the Remove Media Cache Files from within Premiere Pro does not delete any files on the C-drive.

Its not a bug ims files are always dumped on the c drive.

Delete manually.

I think this should be clarified then in the instructions. Adobe simply state that setting an alternate location in the Prefs of Premiere, will move the cache files. One ASSUMES it means ALL Cache and associated files.

LATEST

They are tiny files which hardly take up any room on the hard drive.

My entire common folder is 200 mb.

AppData is een hidden folder for a reason.
