Can't browse my LUTs premiere 2025

Community Beginner ,
Feb 12, 2025 Feb 12, 2025

I'm trying to select my personal LUT's to apply on a video, but when I go to Creative tab -> Look, I can't browse my own LUTs, there's simply no option in there for me to choose, but a list of standard available LUTs.

I used to browse them with no issues on Premiere 2024, and yes, all my LUTs have the correct extension .cube, as I already use them for years now..

Also, when I click Look tab and all those "SL" LUTs appear it also auto-clicks the one my mouse is hovering, so idk, might be a bug or something? Please help!

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Where are you parking your LUTs on the drives? That is crucial to getting proper reaction from Premiere.

For instance, never ever EVER!!!! put your LUTs in the same specific folder as the Program's included LUTs. Period.

But tell us where you parked them, we can help.

I have all of my LUTs in my Sandisk SSD. I used to always browse them and use them from the SSD, never dropped them in any specific Mac folder, or nothing close to put them inside same folder as standard ones..

They have a published chart showing locations where you can park your LUTs, so that Premiere can see and show them in the appropriate LUT dropdown list.

One is in the User/[yourname]/Documents/Adobe/... folder tree, one is in the Program {Package} files/Adobe/COMMON/LUTs folder. The latter, note, is not in the Premiere Program files!

If you put your LUTs in either listed location, the app will scan those folders on launch, and will show them in the appropriate LUT listing.

I put mine in the Program files/Adobe/Common/LUTs folder tree, and created the Technical and Creative folders at that location. Premiere will show the ones in the Technical folder in the Basic tab dropdown, and the ones in the Creative folder in the Creative tab drop down.

I do recommend using one of the approved locations as that makes it easier to access your LUTs. There's some changes I've long suggested to their system, but you can make it work.

Now if you put your LUTs there, you don't have to navigate to them ... they are simply shown, in alphanumeric order, in with the included LUTs.

Yup, I've tried that already, Ive placed all my LUTs inside Technical folder on my Mac, but nothing changed. Ill try reinstalling Premiere Pro, maybe that solves the issue. But it's kinda frustrating, Ive asked all my videomakers friends and not a single one of them ever had this issue, that's why Im very confused about it

Make sure they are NOT in Premiere's folders. Period. Never, ever use the Premiere folder system.

That isn't what I listed above.

- Program or Package folder (PC or Mac)

- Adobe

-Common

-LUTs

And in that folder you would normally need to create the Technical and Creative folders.

The other correct location is as I noted in a similar tree but in the user/ username/documents/Adobe folders .

I parked mine here...C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\LUTs\.  But I don't have a separate folder for technical and creative (because I don't know the difference).  I am in PP 2025 and click on a clip, go to my lumeteri menu and it only shows the 5 or so that get installed with PP.  So why can't PP see them if I copy them to the address listed above?

I even created the two sub-folders, copied all of my luts into creative, restarted PP and they are STILL not available.

A number of us both users (like me) and staffers are in Vegas for the huge NAB show this week. So getting back to people is a when I can thing.

The end would be the following:

.../LUTs/Technical (for Basic tab use)

.../LUTs/Creative (for Creative tab use)

.../LUTs/Input (for Input color management use)

And of course, make sure the folders don't have any permissions restrictions set.

Get a screenshot of your full folder-tree from C: on ... drag/.drop to your reply box text area, and we'll see if we can see some little thing off.

Oh ... and you may also need to check permissions for that folder you created. As sometimes the OS will set that so that Premiere can't really access it.

I am a having the exact problem of what he stated in the original post. It won't let me "Browse". When I click "browse" it just automatically selects one from the list. It never opens up the browse window. I can physically put them in the correct folder by myself and they do show up as options but I'd love to know why it won't let me browse for them.

Just found the answer.  Disable "Auto Refresh Input Lut?Look" under the Lumetri Color hamburger. Supposedly a known bug.

Um, the disable "Auto Refresh input Lut" was already disabled and still cannot find the 100s of LUTS I have on my computer...

I don't know why this is such an issue with PP!!!

This is pretty frustrating, as I can't get it to not see LUTs I've created/added to the computer. So I can't replicate.

Again, seeing a screengrab of the folder tree used for the LUTs might help.

Where are we supposed to copy our LUTS to on our computer so Adobe sees the 100+ LUTs?  I've heard a couple of different locations but when I copy them there I still cannot find them listed under LUTs in PP.

The help documentation has the charts of the locations.

One thing to be aware of is that you need to create the final named folders, one for each option to use them.

An Input folder, Technical (Basic tab use),  and Creative (Creative tab use).

Then when you hit the drop down in those parts of Premiere, your LUTs will appear.

I have created a LUTs folder in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common.  Then, under the LUTs file folder, I created two additional file folders (one for technical and one for creative).  However, I need to find where I copied all of my LUTs to on my system and park them in here.

Quick follow-up question, how do I determine if they are either basic or creative.  Here is the screenshot on where I will eventually store them (I just need to know which ones go where).

Randune23_0-1754248241034.png

Randune23_1-1754248488528.png

I currently have them all stored in option #2 and PP cannot find them.

Thank you for your continued help on this matter.

How do you want to apply them? That's all the difference is.

Input gets applied as per the Input setting in the new color management options on the Color Workspace/Lumetri panel Settings tab. That is pre-anything of use of the clip.

Technical gets applied in the Basic tab's LUT slot ... not my favorite spot as LUTs are "the dumbest math out there" for a reason ... there isn't any math, all a LUT file is, is a text file saved in specific formats with different headers. It's a text instruction set . ... this RGB triplicate becomes that RGB triplicate, with 16, 32, or 64 entry sets.

Between those points, the application simply "draws a line" to convert other data. That's all. And if you have anything above or below what it's set to work with, it will clip or crush data.

Which is why that ain't my favorite place to put a LUT on the clip.

The Creative folder LUTs will appear in the Creative tab's dropdown slot. If you do your transforms/whatever using the "Creative" tab's dropdown slot, you can use the Basic tab exposure, contrast, white/black and saturation, to trim the clip into the LUT, as a typical colorist would do.

Out of general curiosity, what are you using the LUTs for? The algorithms they now have for most log-encoded media are actually 'safer' for your pixels than any normalization (log to linear) LUT. And are typically preferred by most colorists whether in Resolve or Premiere.

LUT use can be a fascinating discussion for certain.

Oh, and Premiere will not see anything added to a folder while it is open. I've asked for years for a 'refresh' button, so it would check presets and LUT folders et al ... as have many others. But still, after adding the LUTs, you need to close Premiere and relaunch it.

To be honest, I typically use the "Auto" correction in the Lumetri color tab as it does a pretty good job at color grading my video clips.  I was just hoping to have all of them at my fingertips to apply the color correction.

I just don't want to have to go to [browse], find a LUT, and apply it to find out it is NOT what I was looking for.  I often like to preview my LUTs in real time if I am going with a certain theme on my project, scene, etc. to set a mood.  When they were all stored in the correct location, I would just click the drop down arrow, select a LUT until I find the one I want to go with.

I am not very good at color grading so that is why I usually let PP make the clips better.  Often times when I fly my DJI drone I forget to put the correct filter on the drone camera lens.  PP is great at making those clips look better than I could on my own.

But @R Neil Haugen you never told me if I should copy my LUTs from option #1 to option #2.  🙂

I'm not quite clear what "option 2" is ... do you mean, the lower of the two images in the above post? With the Creative and Technical folders?

If so, then Premiere should see the LUTs ... if they are a form of cube LUTs Premiere can use. For instance, some of the 3d LUTs that come with Resolve are not 'seen' by Premiere, as there are some entries in the header section of the files that Premiere will not work with. But if you know how to mod those lines of text, then Premiere can use them.

So the origin of these LUTs is ... what?

I am new to Premiere and trying to teach myself the basics so I can edit videos shot on my new DJI Pocket 3. DJI offered a LUT since I will be filming in the D-Log M, 10-bit mode. I've been all over the web and these boards to find the answer to this question and the simple answer seems to be that one needs to save their LUTs to a folder on the hard drive and use the browse option to find the folder and any 3rd party LUTs for use.
