Can't replace placeholder clip on MOGRT after updating to premiere and after effects 2025

Community Beginner ,
Nov 19, 2024 Nov 19, 2024

I've made some MOGRT on after effects 2024 that allowed me to use placeholder media and make the replacement directly on premiere. After updating to the newer version, i cannot replace this placeholder anymore, not dragging and not even with the options menu (that have all options disabled). I've already reexported the files using the new versions of both softwares, and it is still not working.

Is it a bug or the the way this clips are replaced have changed?

Hi @Whell39007790i2kt - In version 25 the Essential Graphics panel has been replaced by the Properties panel.  Please see this article Properties panel for Premiere Pro

Replace footage is done in the Properties panel not the Effect Controls.

Hi @Whell39007790i2kt -  Based on your video, the action you’re trying to perform has been moved from the ‘Effects’ panel to the ‘Properties’ panel.  Let us know if you are having trouble using the "Properties" Panel

You don't have the Properties panel visible ... so of course you can't do that.

As they have repeatedly said, you MUST use the Properties panel to do that now.

Properties is now "context aware" so it changes what you see there based on what you have selected. It's weird at first, but is fast once you get used to it.

I think everyone gets the frustration. If you had been working also in Illustrator and InDesign, apparently those have had the "context aware" Properties panel for some time. And it was an obvious and appreciated addition to Premiere.

But for those of use with not much time in some of the other apps, it was a shock. It behaves oddly at first. But as people get used to it, they seem to think it's a lot faster.

I am reconsidering my nine custom workspaces. As several things are now handled in that Properties panel that requried separate panels before ... I might be cutting down to three or four.

Hi Everyone,

Hope all had a happy holiday season.

I seem to be having the same issue were i cannot replace my footage using the mogrt files via the properties panel.

I can drag my clip to the replace window, but nothing happens. However, i am able to replace via the "Replace from Finder" option, but that footage would be the raw un color corrected or sized final clip. My mogrt was created in AE V24, but now converted to AE V25, and reexported to mogrt land. The mogrt works fine in Premiere V24.

Thoughts?

Thank you for the reply and update. Would have loved for an Adobe Employee get back to me, but THANK YOU. Much appreciated.

We have done some more testing and found replacement works with V25.00 (Build 61) but not with 25.01 (Build 73). Not able to swap the footage using click and drag.

We have figured out a work around for the moment for our lower thirds taht use media replacement:

  • Add lower third mogrt graphic to desired area on the timeline
  • Slice background clip to length of LT graphic
  • Click on lower third mogrt graphic and enter properties panel
  • Go to replace/swap your footage window
  • Click 3 lines in top right of swap your footage window and select ‘replace from finder’
  • Select any 1920x1080 or 4k clip in finder to populate ‘swap your footage’ preview window
  • Double click on ‘swap your footage’ preview window (This will open up a ‘swap your footage’ timeline)
  • Add desired background clip to ‘swap your footage’ timeline
  • Click back to original edit timeline and your LT background should be correct

They have acknowledged the issue and a fix is coming. For some, might already be working correctly in the latest beta builds. Will ... probably ... be in the next "shipping" version update patch release. Whenever that comes out.

And as always with software releases, we'll know it's out when it's out.

Can some one else check if this feature has been fixed for them? I have now tried the Replace Footage feature in properties panel and it seems V25 Build 61 is now working. Meaning i am able to match cut my sequence footage and replace footage by dragging to replace window.

It might have splipped by m, but have not seen annoucement from Adobe regarding the fix.

Hi @carlos_3854 - This wasn't a bug or a fix.  Premiere Pro changed the way this worked.

I am experiencing a similar issue; there are no controllers for a MOGRT in the Properties panel. While I can change everything except for the media in Effects Control, media replacement is completely ineffective. I encounter the same problem with all MOGRTs. Premiere Pro 25.2.3
