DNX Rewrap changes audio bit depth

Community Beginner ,

Hi all

Am using PC/Win10 and exporting DNX HQX 10 bit/24bit audio source file, doing some picture fixes, color balance then trying to rewrap and output. However the rewrap setting changes my audio from 24 to 16 bit. If I change the bit depth then the setting becomes 'custom' and seems to be doing a full re-encode, which I don't want.

Tried the same thing with Cineform, it too changes audio to 16 bit.

Is this a limit of the rewrap function? Doesn't make sense when you have higher bit depth audio.

Thanks

As far as I've every heard, if you're doing any changes to the image ... which color and "picture fixes" certainly would be ... you're not getting a simple "rewrap" anyway, it has to re-encode the data. You've changed it.

A re-wrap requires there are no changes.

"Custom" simply means any change from the preset. You could change a re-wrap preset that still re-wrapped as you expect, and it would be a "custom" export. Save it to a named preset, invoke it, and it's just exporting according to the pres

So if I understand correctly, I can make edits but no efx, color correction or similar changes to rewrap.

But why is the audio bit depth changing from 24 to 16?

Thanks

My guess is that is somehow setup as the "standard" bit depth for the codec within PrPro. No clue as to the validity/ probability of that guess, mind you.

Rewrap means you are changing container. Everything inside stays the same: no encoding.

Premiere does not do rewrap.

Actually Premiere does do rewrap, but not for every codec.

After checking my project, it didn't meet the requirements to rewrap, specifically you can't change the audio bit rate, do color correction, effects, etc.

No, I was trying to rewrap as I thought it would save time and not change anything. TBH I didn't know about smart rendering as it doesn't appear on every codec and is buried in the bottom of the Video tab in AME. I noticed it is checked automatically for some types.

But thanks though. I will try to use it in the future.
