Doesn't open .prproj when double clicked in Windows Explorer

We have an issue on multiple workstations with Premiere 2019 13.1.4 not opening .prproj files automatically when they are double clicked. Is anyone else seeing this issue?

We have uninstalled 12.1.2 from the machines in question, and I have also tried running these commands:

assoc .prproj=Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project.13

ftype Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project.13="C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2019\Adobe Premiere Pro.exe" %1

Please don't recommend that we use the File > Open project menu item. We know that works. This functionality should work too.

Replicated on 1809, have not seen the issue on 1903 yet.

Are you getting some kind of error? or does anything happens at all?
Is this happening with all PP projects or just old ones? (try to create a new project)
Is this happening exclusively with PP project files? or does it happens with any other file type?

Have you tried the "Open With" solution?

The application opens but it does not open the project. No errors.

I have also set the file associations with Open With, same behavior.

This happens to all project files opened on the computers in question.

Premiere 13.1.4 is the only application we have trouble with file associations with. 12.1.2 worked fine.

1- when PP opens try to reset workspace (Window --> Workspaces --> Reset to saved layout or chose any other wokspace)

This solution might fix the opened Project but not all the others.

2- (And this is my fav solution) Trash preferences: Hold Shift + Alt or Option and Launch PP

You might have some references to PP 12 still around in the registry.

I have a database software I run, and at some point it was opening a linked file in version 8 rather than 9 and I had a hard time finding the reason. Later I learned it was the install order. With that in mind I've tried to avoid installing v8 on future machines.

EDIT: I believe when I had the problem is when I installed v8 after v9. So, I had clean installed win, and then installed all my main software. Then I need v8 at some point and it stepped on the v9 install and grabbed the various autoruns.

Here's the programs that have helped me the most:

Christian.Z I reset preferences and plugin cache, set to Editing layout, same issue. Double clicking the .prproj calls Premiere to attention, but it doesn't open the project.

MyerPj thanks for reminding me about this tool, I see the same thing on systems that work and systems that don't work.

After running the CC cleaner in full mode and then reinstalling, I am able to get it working on my desktop. I guess this is what I'll have to do for the others, not sure what other root cause analysis we can do.

Usually trashing preferences helps with registry issues. Sometime registry issues are to problematic for preference trashing to work.

I'm glad you found a solution!
