Hello all,
I wonder if anyone can help. I am having this weired issue with playback on the latest version of PP Version 22. Anytime I attempt to do double speed playback be it on the timeline OR on the preview window, the video freezes, I can hear the audio but video freezes! Really frustrating as I edit long interviews and this feature is key.
I dont have the same issue however with my previous PP Version 15.4. This tells me it's nothing to do with drive etc as I am editing from the same drive SSD and only editing 1080 mp4 footage. Also, when I switch over to PP 15.4, works all fine, back to PP 22, freezing double speed so it's clearly a version of software bug.
Problem is, I've created all Mogrt files now in PP22 so I can't even revert back to PP 15 as my Morgrt and other resources are no incompatible!
Please help.
Thanks
It works for me in the latest build now
Hey, I updated it to 22.5 version and it's a loooot better now. Give it a go!

Following. This problem is also occuring for me in all projects in v22.0. Disabling hardware accelerated decoding in Media preferences does help slightly. I've noticed a reduction in the amount of freezing; however the issue is still very present, especially with longer clips. With this setting, the audio also freezes along with video. Eventually playback is able to resume.
This is probably a bug in the new update given other recent discussion posts on the forum, as well as a bug report on the UserVoice feedback page. Hopefully this can be resolved.

Having the same issue as well. Even happening with proxies. I have Force Quit Premiere every time it happens. Such a pain.

Hi there!
We're reporting this to our engineering team for investigation. Could you share the following information with me so they can try to reproduce the behavior?
1. What did you use to record your footage?
2. Would you be able to share the .prproj file by uploading it to a share service like Google Drive or Dropbox? We don't need the media, just the .prproj
3. What workspace do you typically work in?
4. Have you already tried updating your graphics drivers, resetting your preferences, and clearing your cache?
Thanks, sorry for the frustration!

Hi Caroline,
I'm having a similar problem since upgrading to Pr22. I can play single clips on the timeline in double time. But as soon as there is multiple video tracks and audio tracks it stalls. As soon as I press stop premiere freezes but the audio keeps playing for about 15seconds, then finally it unfreezes and stops playing.
1. Various sony Mirrorless cameras, MP4 1080p files.
2. https://www.dropbox.com/s/whftjkv0yi5qqqo/Justin%20%26%20Carissa%20Doco.prproj?dl=0
3. Editing workspace
4. Resetting the preferences seemed to do the trick! But occasionally it still freezes. 9/10 times it works as it should.

Same issue here on Mac (doesnt happen for me on Pc but it is laggy). On Mac you cant even stop playback by pushing space or stop for a good 10 seconds or so.
1. What did you use to record your footage? A7S III (4k and 1080p have the same problem)
2. Would you be able to share the .prproj file by uploading it to a share service like Google Drive or Dropbox? We don't need the media, just the .prproj - YES
3. What workspace do you typically work in? - A CUSTOM ONE BASED ON THE EDITING PRESET
4. Have you already tried updating your graphics drivers, resetting your preferences, and clearing your cache? - GPU DRIVERS YES, HAVE NOT RESET PREFERENCES, HAVE CLEARED CACHE.

Hello,
Any update with the fix for this please?
I am and have been suffering with this issue since V22 also. MOGRT etc have already been created in this version so reverting back would be a lot of re-doing of work to go back to V15 or so which was stable.
Please treat this as urgent as I am sure many people are suffering with this issue too but don't know what to do!
Both on Mac and Window ( I have both systems). 2019 Macbook Pro, 32GB Ram, 4gb of Grpahic card) Windows system even more highly spec with 96GB of ram etc Editing simple 1080 files that I've never had issues with on previous versions of PP.
Awaiting Reponse.
Thanks
Thanks

Sorry about that, Anders. You are having performance issues with v.22 and macOS Monterey. Did you have the same problems on macOS Big Sur? This format has been a problem throughout all versions of v.22. It's disappointing that it's not fixed in the Beta.
Engineering seems to indicate that improvements should fix the issue in Beta. I would try the Beta again after some troubleshooting. First, update Beta and Media Encoder Beta. Once launched, can you try deleting the media cache? File > Close All Projects and delete all cache from Preferences > Media Cache. Can you try deleting preferences too?
I hope I can help.
Thanks,
Kevin

Yes was on Big Sur too. I had an intel machine on that as well.
I doubt it is a cache problem when on 3 different computers with different OS and different projects.
Never happened pre v22.
Did you try recreate it?
What version of Beta should fix it? I checked about a week ago.

Hey Anders,
Sorry about the issue. I had some similar troubles just today while editing a test. This editing session was on my Intel MacBook Pro, and I am on macOS Monterey. Some of my footage plays back just fine, like HEVC 4K from my iPhone. Footage from my Canon DSLR exhibited the behavior, though. It is H.264 and HD res. Once I created proxies, I had no trouble with shuttling footage with JKL. I believe we have a bug filed for this behavior for XAVC footage. What camera shot your footage? Maybe I can get more info for you to assist.
There was a new version released for Beta just a few days ago. Check the Creative Cloud application if you would like to update it. If you try it and have better results, let me know.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Thanks, as posted earlier:
To reproduce:
- Take the most common camera for creators, the Sony a7S III.
- Record a clip in recommended settings: XAVC HS 4k, 24 fps, 100 M 4:2:0 10 bit
- Add a couple of LUTs.
- Press L twice for double speed
- Press space to stop.
- It won't stop, it will keep playing for 20-30 seconds if lucky. If unlucky, for minutes or until force quit.
Latest OS on the Apple Silicon
Latest OS on the Intel machine
Latest Premiere.

Hi Anders,
I think that you are not getting good enough performance for that format right now. Did you try the new beta yet, 22.4? Let me know.
Thanks.,
Kevin

I have yet to update to v22.1.1, but for those looking for a workaround of this issue on v.22.0, I had no problems once I started using proxies (which makes sense).

The same(( And at 22.2 it can freeze even on standard speed just because of using 2 monitors/

Is there an update on this bug? I have to edit all the dialog sections in FCPX now and then bring it back into Premiere Pro to work around this bug.
It's easily reproducable:
- Grab the most common camera for video creators now: Sony a7S III.
- Put it in the most suitable mode for long form content XAVC HS 4K (H.265 IPB) - 10 bit 4:2:0 100 Mbps/s
- Put a long clip in the timeline. Press double speed. (Must have for long form A roll.)
- Press stop
- Timeline keeps playing for in best case 20-30 seconds, in worst case for minutes until you Force Quit Premiere Pro and pray there was an auto save.
Was never a problem before v22, with same camera, codec, computer etc. Clearly a simple software bug.
It happens on both the Intel and the Apple Silicon version, just slightly shorter on the latter but still impossible to use.
I frankly can't think of a more basic usecase than this. It should be in the regression test suite run 1.

Correction: You also need to put one adjustment layer with a LUT for the bug to appear.

This problem occurs for me with video files longer than a couple of minutes, no matter the file type or camera, regardless of an adjustment layer. I initially thought proxies helped, but they didn't. The issue now happens exactly as you described, every time I use premiere. I am running v22 on a 2017 imac on Big Sur, and this problem was not present in v21.
There are multiple threads and a UserVoice post about this from November, and the bug still exists.

Hi austinj,
Sorry about that. What happens if you transcode the footage or use proxies? Are you meeting system requirements? Let me know!
Thanks,
Kevin

Hey Kevin,
As of now, I do not have any more issues. I am able to use JKL with the timeline and the preview windows without things freezing up. The only difference between now and a couple weeks ago is that I upgraded to macOS Monterey 12.3. Hardware acceleration is currently enabled.
When I was initially having issues, I thought proxies helped at first, but they did not. Disabling hardware acceleration didn't matter. I was only working with 1080p H.264 clips, though the problem only occured in clips with longer duration (over a couple minutes). And I surpass recommended specs (4.2 ghz intel core i7, 40GB RAM, 8GB GPU).
For now though, I cannot get the problem to reoccur. Hopefully the issue has been resolved. Thank you.

If transcoding the footage to ProRes proxies it works. It doesn't work with H.265 clips.
This is on both Apple silicon and Intel:
- a fully specced out late 2021 MacBook Pro Max with 64 GB RAM
- a fully specced out 2020 iMac with the max 16 GB AMD graphics and 64 GB RAM
=> Same.
Pre version 22 it worked fine with same camera, same clips, same Intel iMac. It's a bug introduced in v22.
It happens on every longer interview clip.

Latest Premiere.

No, this is a timeline editing bug.
For half a year, we have to move the project to FCPX, do the dialogue editing there, then move the project back to Premiere Pro.
Was some dialogue on twitter here:
https://twitter.com/AdobeCare/status/1506008998226849792?s=20&t=vnd-H4_V8Idz1507vms9Cw
I know many others with the same problem. They just gave up and jumped ship.
Any update?
