DVD delivery

Contributor ,
Aug 13, 2018 Aug 13, 2018

I have a client that needs files delivered for a DVD mailing.  Below are their requirements.  Does anyone know of a DVD burner I can buy to get this done?  I have a MacBook Pro (2017 thunderbolt, but can use USB, etc.)

Thanks!!

Format needed to upload disc content:

DVD-Video:

                • Video_TS directory from a fully functional authored DVD (one that already plays in a set top DVD Player)

                • ISO disc image of authored video DVD

                • DDP file set from authored DVD

                • Please do NOT provide QuickTime, MPEG, AVI or any other digital video files for a Video DVD project. These files need to be authored to the proper format for set top DVD playback

DVD-ROM:

                • Pretty much anything, as long as the content is under 4.7 GBs in total

                • ISO, IMG disc image of your DVD-ROM

1.3K

You install CS6 which includes Adobe Encore, Adobe's depreciated DVD authoring program.

I know.  A bit Stone Age!  I'd hate to have to install CS6 (I have CC) and that scares me, all of my programs I use daily are CC.  Any other options?  I guess Media Encoder is a no go?

Not if you need an authored DVD.

AME no help. You must use an authoring program.

For Mac:

CD & DVD Burner for Mac - Toast 17 Titanium by Roxio

You'll still need a physical DVD burner and media.

I know lots of people have downloaded PR CS6 to get encore without problems, but installing this older version seems to have messed up my fonts and uninstalling all my Adobe products and reinstalling PPRO CC still leaves me with error messages.

Maybe you will have better luck that I did and maybe my case was an isolated incident, but just be aware installing CS6 has the potential to cause problems

Here is my current problem

See this thread for burners:

Re: Anyone still creating Blu-ray or DVD?

Are they wanting all of the options listed? Or just one?

The DDP set can be challenging, as the replicating company often finds issues.

Also, the "content is under 4.7 GBs in total" can be an issue since a "4.7 GB" disk only holds 4.37 GiB. That should not be an issue if you have met the conditions in the first part. If you have a functioning DVD that plays on a set top player, the size will be okay for the disk.

It might be worth your while to talk to someone who already KNOWS how to make the stuff you want to give to your client.

There are remote controls that people use to play, stop, go to a specific location ( chapter), start over from beginning, look at special stuff also on the disc ( like " how Planet of the Apes was filmed " ), etc. For anyone, starting from scratch, this is not a real fast learning curve. The problems that arose for Adobe to continue supporting ENCORE, is in large part due to the fact that it's complicated and hard to do.

The client specs are only that you end up with an authored product. There is nothing regarding what authoring techniques are used:

Options:

A disk that autoplays a single movie and ends.

A disk that starts with an intro movie, goes to a menu with an option for "play all" and another for "chapters."

Multiple audio tracks; or closed captions; or subtitles.

Etc.

The sky is the limit.
