Editing 2nd Clip to Timeline Carries Audio Only - No Video - Why?

New Here ,
Dec 07, 2021 Dec 07, 2021

I use Premiere Pro to edit footage for YouTube videos.  Up until now I haven't had any problems.  Now, all of a sudden, when I bring my clips into PPro and try to add them to the timeline, only the first clip loads like it's supposed to.  The 2nd and additional clips I try to add to the timeline only add the audio with no video.

Do I have to find another editor or can some of experts out there tell me what's going on and how to fix it?

Thanking you all in advance,

Jim

You have no video track set in the Source target tracks.

See that far left blue block, A1?

You need to have a video track above it selected also. So click probably the far left gray block on V1 ... or whichever track you want.

At the current time, Pr thinks you are telling it specificallly not to bring video from the Source monitor.

My guess is you don't have your source patching turned on for the video channel. https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/source-patching-track-targetting.html

I have video and audio showing but when I grab the second clip to put it on the timeline, only the audio will drop onto it.

It just recently started doing this.  I've put up 32 videos on youtube using Premiere Pro without this happening.  I looked on YT for this problem and saw one that said something about CODEC.  Hey, I'm new to all this, please someone guide me back on the straight and narrow.

I may go to another editor if I can't get help here and I had to do that, I'm just starting to learn PPro pretty well.

Thanks,

Jim

Give us a screen grab of your timeline control header block, showing the area that Gerik posted. It's the left side blocks that are involved here.

Are you able to play the clips back in the Source window or in some other player on your system?

I'm asking this just to rule out the possibility that we're dealing with corrupt source footage.

Yes, I can play the clips in Source window with no problem, but if I try to bring them into the timeline from there, same thing happens, only the audio loads.

As you can see, only audio is loaded and I had the clip in the source window working when I dragged it onto the timeline.  I also notice that it has a V1 and A1 outside of lines for V3 & A3, is that supposed to be that way? Nothing's muted or locked, so it looks like it should to me.  Then again, I don't know what it's supposed to look like anyway. 🙂

Thanks for your assistance.
