Encore OSStatus Error = -5000

New Here ,
Mar 25, 2019 Mar 25, 2019

Hi folks. Encore is suddenly giving me a weird message when I'm trying to burn a DVD:

OSStatus Error = -5000

I also see this message when I try to create a new project.

Got any advice?

Thanks,

Russ

The osstatus errors are Mac operating system errors.

This one is apparently a permissions error. You probably have files or folders that are read only. These can be any files or folders in the paths of the program files or projects.

Here are a couple threads:

Ok thanks for the advice.

Some info from me that I should have mentioned before:

Using a 27.5 inch iMac with OS 10.14.3

I’m the administrator

Using Adobe Encore CS6

Some stuff I've tried since yesterday:

I’ve gone into Library>Application Support>Adobe and control clicked on Adobe to make sure that Sharing & Permissions is set to “Read & Write” for system

I’ve gone into Library>Preferences and control clicked on Preferences to make sure that Sharing & Permissions is set to “Read & Write” for system

Still getting the "OSStatus Error = -5000" message.

Encore also gives that same error message when I create a new file:

-I open Encore

-I click on “New Project”

-I click on “Ok” in that new project window

-Encore gives me the “OSStatus Error = -5000” message

My understanding of permission issues for macs is that you may have to ensure that you've selected each folder and each file that exist in the relevant folders before you get the permissions correct. I'm not a Mac person, but I know issues like that have been a part of what has complicated it in the past.

Success!

I needed to reset all permissions on my iMac, which solved the problem.

I used this link from Apple to do it:

https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT203538

The link takes you through going to your Home folder and using Terminal to reset user permissions.

Once I did this, Encore behaved itself and I could create new projects without getting that "OSStatus Error = -5000" message.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction!
