Export an .ISO image file?

Guest

I have a 6+ hour video that I need to have published onto two Dual Layer DVDs (DVD-9 discs = 8.5GB each). The printer said: "you can save some $$ and upload an .iso image to our Project Center." Uhhh. I'm used to exporting digital movie files (using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 + Adobe Media Encoder) and normal DVDs (using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 + Adobe Media Encoder + Adobe Encore). I'm having a hard time figuring out how to export .ISO image files. Also, I'm not sure if I can check the .ISO images to see how the DVD menu will work out, as the printer doesn't check for functionality. And I don't know how I'd make sure I can make the video file as high quality as possible to fit on those two discs. I currently have the video broken into two different Premiere Pro projects, with Encore markers set up. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Are they going to duplicate (burn) or replicate (press)? Either way, but especially replication, you need the checking from them.

But yes, you can "mount" the .iso and test it. Also burn a test disk.

The .iso is produced by Encore.

The layer break involved in dual layer can be a huge problem. Have you done that before?

Thanks for your response Stan! Boy, I'm not sure about the "burn" vs. "replicate". I'll ask them.

I'll have to look into "layer break", as I've never heard of it. Is this something that I need to take care of before I send the files to them? Or does the publisher do this?

The Layer Break is something that you must do at your end as it is part of the authoring process.

This has to be done after the main disc is compiled to a Video_TS folder, but before you create the ISO image.

Perhaps the easiest way to do this on a PC (bear in mind that Mac is just not DVD friendly these days) would be to create the Encore output to a DVD Folder (this will create the Video_TS folder, which is your DVD file set in DVD legal form) and then either

A - use Encore to set the layer break (check the online help for this as the exact details are not in my head right now, or

B - use IMGBurn to create the ISO image where it will then present you with a list of legal layer break positions (you can even preview these) and make absolutely certain that you do not have the check box marked for "Do not update IFO/VOB files and IMGBurn will automatically modify the IFO control files for you.

If you need to provide a replication master this will most likely be in DDP form, and that can present issues for those not used to this - but if you do need this form please post back & I will try too walk you through it.
