Exporting Question

New Here ,
Apr 10, 2017 Apr 10, 2017

Hi all,

I am somewhat familiar with editing on premiere but not so much with exporting. I have a project due ASAP and I need to export it based on the following specs:

 Codec: H.264

 Container: QuickTime MOV (NOT MP4)

 Resolution: 1920 x 1080

 Frame Rate: 29.97 (drop frame)

 Aspect Ratio: 1.0 / Square

 Scanning: Interlaced, Top/Upper Field

 Bitrate: Minimum 30mbps

I think I can figure out most of these in the export settings, but I'm unable to figure out how to address the final 2 specs (Scanning: Interlaced, Top/Upper Field -- and -- Bitrate: Minimum 30mbps). Can anyone advise me on how to go about applying these settings to my project?

Thanks in advance!

To get an interlaced export, you choose an interlaced ( " i " ) codec preset option, typically.

Then down lower in the export box, in the Video tab, you would select Fields (Upper first). Bitrate is a pair of sliders, you can have constant or variable, with variable a 'target' and a 'minimum', with constant, you just set the bitrate on the slider bar.

That makes sense, however which interlaced preset codec would you choose to match the required specs?

By going into the Export box, choosing QuickTime for the Format, then Cineform YUV 10-bit as the codec, I went down to the Video tab below and changed to 1920x1080 29.97 Upper First, so I got everything but the "H.264" ...

BUT ... by going to Adobe Media Encoder (comes with PrPro) instead, and creating an encoding preset there, I went to the + icon in the lower left panel to select creating an encoding preset ... then selected Quicktime as the format, NTSCV DV Widescreen as the preset, then went down and modified as necessary in the Video tab ... as you can see below.

Video codec H.264, 1920x1080, 29.97, Upper First, Square pixels ...

The one thing I couldn't change was to set a minimum bit-rate. This setting options only allow for a maximum kpbs setting.

Now ... once you've saved this preset in AME, if you restart PrPro, and in the Export dialog box, select Quicktime as the format, this preset will appear in the top group of the list of available presets/options.

Thank you very much for this help, Neil. However, I am not seeing the H.264 video codec option within the encoder program. I follow everything up until that point, but after choosing QUICKTIME as my format, I just don't have that H.264 option in my settings. Is there another way to go about getting these export settings?

This project is due within the next 2 hours (3pm PST) so any additional information you have would be greatly appreciated!

Alternatively, I can also export using the following specs if you know how to do these:

 Codec: Apple ProRes422 (HQ)

 Container: QuickTime MOV

 Resolution: 1920 x 1080

 Frame Rate: 29.97 (drop frame)

 Aspect Ratio: 1.0 / Square

 Scanning: Interlaced, Top/Upper Field

ProRes export only available on Mac, no PC support (Apple's choice)

Thanks

If you follow my instructions, step-by-step, you'll find the H.264 where I did ... AFTER choosing the NTSC wide preset in the Preset box at top, I went to the Video tab in the lower section of the Encoding Preset creation dialog box ... and in the Video Codec options, there it is ... but note, the preset you create in AME will not be visible in PrPro until you've closed and reopened PrPro.

Thanks for all your help, Neil. But I am following your instruction step by step.

AME >

Format = QT

Preset = NTSC DV Widescreen

Video Codec = NO H.264 OPTION <----this is my issue. I do not see this as an avail codec once I set the format as QT in AME.

So, here's the list that shows up in Adobe Media Encoder's "Create Encoding Preset" dialog box, when I go down to set the codec in the Video tab area ...

Are you not getting this list?

Correct. I am not getting that same list. Here's a pic:

Well now ... that's missing a TON of the included codecs ... for that, the best fix ... download the Adobe CC Cleaner tool, use that to uninstall and clean up (remove) all traces of AME CC, then reboot the computer.

Tthen from your desktop CC app, download/install AME as a fresh copy.

Should take about 10-20 minutes depending as much on download speeds as anything else. That didn't install all of the codecs it should have.
