Extremely choppy playback with proxies. Only rendering helps it.

I have proxies attached to all my footage, but the playback is extremely delayed and choppy. Only rendering it allows a smooth playback which is obviously not ideal when you're actively editing. Any help or thoughts on other variables to check out much appreciated!

What are the complete computer specs, including hard drives (how many, what kind, what is on each, what capacity, and how full)?

Please use the free MediaInfo and post a screenshot of the properties of your media in tree view:

If NVIDIA graphics, make sure to use the latest Studio Driver from NVIDIA (NOT the Game Driver).

Check the Audio Hardware Preferences. Default Audio Input should be set to No Input.

Also, the properties of the Proxies. What codec was use? ProRes proxy is a great choice. h.264 would be just more trouble.
