'Fast blur' effect not showing after being applied to a clip adjustment layer.

New Here ,

I added the 'fast blur' effect onto a clip adjustment layer. At first this worked fine: I applied the fx to the adjustment layer, the blur showed and I could edit the effect while seeing the changes. But after I applied the fx after a couple of sucesses, the fx blur does not show at all- no blur- no change.

I am using premiere 2021.

I have tried activiating the global fx mute, but this shows no change.

Please let me know ASAP how to solve this.

Here's another thing you could try to do: perhaps nesting the images into a single clip and then applying the fast blur effect to the nested sequence will work?

I just tried out the effect myself. For me it still works fine, even when I copy the adjustment layer multiple times.

That being said, the Fast blur effect has been categorized as Obsolete in PPro. That means that it is no longer being actively developed and that it will disappear in a future release of the program. This should act as a warning that you have to look for alternatives, such as camera blur, directional blur or gaussian blur.

Please try any of these alternatives.

Although I have not tested this effect myself, my initial reaction is: why would you want to place a fast blur effect on an adjustment layer instead of on the active clip itself? Adjustment layers are intended to affect all layers below it and are typically used for color corrections/grades that span multiple clips.

If there is just a single layer active on the timeline, you may just as well apply the effect to the clip itself. Perhaps this will instantly solve your issue.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that input.

I use it on an adjustment layer becuase I have multiple image sequences or still images that make up a single shot. So, I wanted to adjust all of them at once.

I have tried your method as suggested, unfortunately it did not make a difference.

Also, I have tried exporting my sequence and opening it in another project after closing premiere.

Do you think opening the project in 2022 instead of 2021 would make a difference? (that next on my "attempting to solve this" to do list).

I'm not sure, but I believe that once you have opened and saved a project in the CC22 version, you cannot open it back up again in CC21.

As a general rule, I never change versions mid-way through a project. Usually best practice to finish it in one version and then start a new project in the latest version. If you open up an old project in a newer version, PPro will prompt you to save it as a new project.

Thank you, I am currently trying your suggestions. I will try an alternative blur effect next as you said.

I have got it to work.

I nested the sequence, applied camera blur to a single clip directly and (only after rendering) it worked.

Hopefully I will not have any more problems with this.

Thank you very much for you help and prompt replies. 🙂
