GPU acceleration greyed out and Premier running slow

Could anyone help me understand why i cant select or turn on GPU acceleration?

Im using a brand new Macbookpro 32gb RAM, M1 max chip that has the latest OS monterey v 12.0.1

and the latest version of premier v22.

Im having playback issues with 4k footage on a custom 1080 timeline with no effects or editing applied to the clips. seems strange given the machine spec?

I suspect GPU acceleration is deselected (it is greyed out) and i cannot go in and change this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

David

yeah both H.264 and H.265 require lot of processing,

so better go for a Cineform Proxy workflow I guess,

instead of editing your 4K footage on a 1080 sequence

I am guessing Adobe has not yet optimized Premiere Pro for the M1 Max chip. It might be trial an error for a few months.

Check Memory in preferences how much RAM is reserved

did you try to reset the preferences?

is it an old project you opened? can you start a fresh new project?

what kind of footage are you working with?

Thanks for replying Carlos.

I've realised when it is greyed out like this Premier will always use the GPU when it needs to so no issue there. So nothing to do with GPU acceleration not being on it is.

I have 26gb out of the 32gb of RAM reserved for Premiere Pro. I've tried starting a fresh project and same issue.

The footage is 10 bit H265 HEVC, 4k, 50fps.  I've heard H265 can be more difficult to work with??

Strangely enough, the footage plays fine in a 4k timeline, but when i play it on 1080 it seems to struggle to play? Also seems to struggle when i select the 1/2 or 1/4 quality playback.

Many Thanks, Dave
