I edit demo reels for actors and directors, so sometimes I'm using converted the iTunes files.  I have edited in Premiere.  The export file is generating grey blobs (I've seen the green ones too) in random frames?  They aren't there in the timeline...just in the exported file.  If I change the edit, they are in new spots. Thoughts?  Solutions?

What is your GPU? If you set the Project dialog setting for Mercury Acceleration to Software only does it go away? I f so, that's a GPU/GPU driver issue.

If not, are those VFR files, per chance? Or some odd long-GOP compression scheme?

I would recommend transcoding them first. If they're H.264/VFR files, use the free utility HandBrake to convert them to CFR, constant frame rate files. Make sure you set both the CFR check-circle and set a specific frame-rate number in the Video tab in Handbrake. For the compression settings, raise them until it shows 'near placebo'.

I ended up changing my export settings to Quicktime and Apple Pro Res 422 and it fixed it.  I don't know why i-Frame is soooooooooo slow and randomly creating grey spots on the video, but whatever.
