I need to use proxies to be able to edit 4k footage. I just updated Premiere to the latest version (23.3.1 (build 2)) and now when I did a test export it is obviously the proxy file in 1024x540 with noticeably less quality. My work flow was to import the footage to my harddrive, then access that folder in premiere, right click, create Pro Res low quality proxies. Then I took the first proxy file, interpretted the footage from 60 to 24 (23.98) and dropped it into a 1920x1080 sequence.
Please help me resolve this. If it's not one thing, it's another with premiere. I dread making videos specifically because of the editing process.

Under General in the Export tab you will find a setting for Proxies used on export: uncheck

I got excited for a second, but it was already unchecked.

Ah I misread your post. Now I see, If You used the proxies in the timeline, that is not the way to go.
You attach proxies to the original files in the project window and toggle between them with proxy button in the Program monitor.
As of now, you will have to replace all proxy files on the timeline with the original to get it exported with the original files.

Okay, but I did toggle and untoggle proxies and tried exporting with the same result of only proxy file being used. You're saying I'll need to manually replace the files in the sequence?

This is an example on how your project window should look.
Just the one file has a proxy attached.

The plot thickens - there's not even an indicator for proxies when I scrolled all the way over.

Yes, you imported Proxies, you don't do that. Import the 4k files, then inside PP create the proxies. They do not show up in the project except in the Meta-data as and pointed out.

I am having the same issue as this person, I have not imported proxies into Premiere.
I have imported the original files, created proxies, edited with the proxies while being able to toggle between proxies and original. But, when I have gone to export - it is exporting out the same quality as the proxies and not the original media. Use Proxies is unchecked, but it is definitely exporting proxies. I have tried a number of things to fix it and ma completely lost as to what to do. Do you have any suggestions? I have created another thread here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/premiere-is-exporting-using-proxies-instead-...

Hello! If you change your Metadata Display settings (right-clicking on the slim bar with Name | Video Info | Audio Info etc., you can select 'proxy' and/or 'file path' and a bunch of other things to show in the window. my life changed once I learned that!
Pro tip, I even create a saved setup with the same columns I like over and over and almost always have the proxy file path viewable because there are always issues in connecting proxies
I am having the same export problem, though... why does it look so blurry in playback and export?!
