How can I create a transparent layer (or adjustment layer) of specified bounds?

Sometimes I want to create a transparent video layer (or maybe an adjustment layer) that's as long as my entire video track. Right now I go to the Project panel, add a transparent video layer (by clicking on the little icon rightmost at the panel bottom), drag the new layer to the timeline, and — very laboriously — drag the right edge of the new layer to the right (higher in the time sequence) until it's as long as the video layer.

But: Is there a way to create a transparent video layer whose length I specify (no dragging)? So, for example, if my video is 60 minutes in length, is it possible, in one action, to create a transparent video layer that extends from 00:00:00:00 to 00:59:59:59 (assuming 60 fps)?

Create the adjustment layer (or transparent video), in the project panel, right-click on it > Speed/Duration (or ctrl + R), set the duration.

Throwing out an alternative to setting the duration (which is totally great) just to have another helpful trick in your bag:

If you select an edit point and press `E` that will 'Extend Edit to Playhead.' So in this context you could select the edit point of your AL/Transparent Video, press End to jump to the end of the timeline, or go to the timecode of your choice, and then press E. Works with other edit types as well like ripple and roll.
