Simple question really, how do I add a drop shadow to a mask? I have an image super imposed over a video that I have masked into a square and would like to add a drop shadow to it. Simply adding the drop shadow effect to the image does not seem to work. Is there a way to do this? It seems that there would be.
Nest the clip with the mask, then apply the drop shadow to the nest.
Select the clip on the timeline, go to the Clip menu > Nest...

Maybe try cropping the image in Photoshop in place of the Mask in PP?

And what if nesting is not a good way for me? I have a whole bunch of different materials having masks, the materials are different and are on different tracks, so nesting the whole track of parts of is not a way out since I work on the materials, change them and having a ton of nests in my project is inapproprieate. Any solutuion?

This is super annoying that you can't do this in Premiere. I also am working on a project where nesting would over-complicate the workflow. Let me just tell the drop shadow effect to respond to the layer's mask.
