Hello,
I want to used the text-based editing transcript to make captions for a documentary film of 90 minutes and want to know the best approach. Here is the structure of the film - there's one sequence that contains 8 nested sequences for each 'chapter' of the film. I am wondering at which level should I create these captions - at the level of the sequence itself or at the level of the sequence that contains all the nested sequences? or does it even matter? Hopefully that question was clear enough. I'm asking as I don't want to embark on transcribing a 90 minute feautre only to find I did it wrong.
Thank you,
A.
In that case you absolutely need to have the captions in the main sequence, not in the nested sequences. Otherwise you won't even be able to enable the captions settings in the Export dialog

I would make sure to create transcripts for all the source clips. Right-click all your clips and choose "Transcribe". Once everything is transcribed it should be easy to create captions, even far into the process.
I would probably add the captions inside the nested sequences, so make sure to edit the captions if I make changes. But if you are doing captions as the very very very last step, you could also do them in the outer main sequence. Up to you! 🙂

Thank you for your reply Annika - very helpful. From what I understand the transcript is created on the source clip so any changes I make to incorrect spelling etc. will be reflected throughout any sequence. Perhaps just to clarify - say I create the captions in each sequence but when I go to export the WHOLE sequence and want to export an .srt file to go along with the rendered file (say for YouTube or something) will it export the captions that are in the nested sequences or what's in the whole sequence? Sorry if this sounds convoluted.
