Not possible. Capture is only possible from a tape based camera or tape deck over firewire.

Just use the software that came with your webcam. If you don't already have it installed, it's probably available for download on the manufacturer's website.

When you use the supplied software, or a suitable substitute, make sure to capture to a format/CODEC, that PrPro can easily work with, like DV-AVI Type II for SD material. Do NOT use something like DivX, or Xvid, as they are delivery-only formats/CODEC's, and will be highly problematic. Also, the quality, which will not be great to begin with, will be further compromised.

Good luck,

Hunt

The problem is that the software that came with the cam crashes all the time.

Any suggestion for a software that does HD?

Unfortunately, I do not. I would anticipate that Google would have many, and there should be some reviews/comments from users, as to what works for them. Also, others might well have some first-hand recs.

When you look into these, do check for the capture format/CODEC, as this can be a make/break deal, when you go to Import and edit.

Good luck,

Hunt

If you need to capture webcam footage on a Mac, just use Quicktime. Open Quicktime, click File, then click New Movie Recording.

wait - premiere pro is unable to use the MacBook Pro webcam as a video source?

so iMovie can do it, but Premier Pro --- can't?

Premiere Pro works with Firewire (whatever that is called in the Mac world) but NOT with USB or a web cam

You must use other software to save video via USB or web cam

ok, so with an external non-usb firewire camera -- yes, but with webcam --- no.

is that right?

if i buy a camera, then i will be able to record multiple video tracks in premiere?

basically -- i want to make multitrack acappella videos with lots and lots of video tracks.

thank you very much for your responses -- i really didn't expect them -- so that is very nice!

With a Firewire camera, you will be able to capture the video.  But only from one camera at a time.

If you want this kind of easy stuff use an easy program like Elements.

guess what? no.

poor user interface design is not a necessary feature of powerful software.

i understand that making adobe products unnecessarily frustrating to use may seem like a "learning curve" to some, but to people who care about efficiency and productivity, it's not.
