The simplify sequence function can close vertical gaps on Video tracks,

but it does not work on audio tracks.
Is there any way to close vertical gaps on audio tracks ?

I assigned the keyboard shortcut of Ctrl+Alt+D to delete all empty audio and video tracks, it's great and saves me from having to run multiple commands.

But there is no empty audio track to delete.
For example

Cannot think of a automatic way.

Select a track (lasso or use the forward selection tool) then move them up (alt+arrow up)

It looks like this is the only way.

Here's my way. You only need to use the keyboard so it makes it a bit faster.

1 - In the menu bar go to Sequence and make sure that "Selection Follows Playhead" is checked.

2 - On your timeline, highlight all audio tracks and un-highlight the video tracks.

3 - Select the first audio clip, Ctrl+x then Ctrl+v, it will be pasted on the first audio track.

4 - After pasting, the playhead automatically moves to the next clip and selects it, Ctrl+x Ctrl+v to cut the selected clip and paste it on the first track.

5 - Rinse and repeat until you reach the end of your timeline. You can keep pressing Ctrl while alternating x and v for faster input.

This is a quick way to close gaps Audio tracks if it does not overlap, thank you.
If there is an overlap in the Audio clips, this method will change the time that the Audio Clip is entered.
At present, it seems that the fastest way that does not change the time is to use a plug-in. 😞

From the screenshot you provided, I thought there isn't any overlap. So, yeah, this method doesn't work if there is overlap. But why would you want to close the "vertical gap" when there's an overlap, wouldn't that overwrite the clips and lose the overlap?

The same reason with people why to use simplify sequence function,
Some clips in a timeline have overlap and some do not.
In addition to deleting the empty tracks, the clips without overlap are merged together track, while those with overlap are left untouched.
but The simplify sequence function can close vertical gaps on Video tracks only not affect audio tracks,
