How to edit text with new Essential Graphics window????

In Premiere Pro CC2017.1.1 & 2017.1.2, I can create a new title with the Essential Graphics window, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to change the default "New Text Layer" text.  Nothing I try works!

Are others able to edit the text of their Essential Graphics titles?  If so, how?  One would imagine that just double clicking the title in the Program Monitor should do the trick, but it doesn't work for me.

Frankly, the legacy titler did NOT need fixing.  It was excellent beyond what any other NLE offers.  Thank God the legacy titler still works now (minus the Title Templates they removed from us ) but it seems Adobe will remove it completely someday.

Another thing, the font list in the Essential Graphics window only displays the font names but not the fonts themselves as does the legacy titler.  Adobe, are you kidding?????????????

Adobe, please stop F-ing around and respect your users by not breaking what used to work, and not giving us ridiculously bad new tools that don't event work!

Hi Pierre - I definitely understand your frustration as it was also confusing for me to adjust to the new interface. I had the same issue, but figured out that if you select (highlight) all the text (command+A on Mac, Ctrl+A on PC), then you can type in new text. You can change text by double clicking on the text in the Program window...

The Font thing: Adobe is working on that and many other stuff.

As I wrote, double clicking the text in the Program Window doesn't work for me.

Anyone else see this bug or is it working for everyone else but me?

No this doesn't work for me. Even when I choose the Text icon from the tools panel, still the same thing. I can't edit the text

Make a couple or three screen-grabs of your PrPro window showing the EGP open to Edit tab, the timeline and program monitor. It would so help to see the 'state' of things on your computer.

Outstanding!  Thank you Ann!  Your tutorial is great.  You have a very pleasant, straight to the point presentation style.  I never use the Tools window in Premiere, so I didn't even know about the new Type Tool.  Using CTRL-A as you suggests only works if the Type Tool is selected first.  One big advantage I noticed from your tutorial is that the Essential Graphics gives us layers like in Photoshop.  Maybe with time it will become better than the legacy Titler.  One thing I'd love to see added ot the new titling tool is keyframable Tracking.  I currently have to rely on AE for titles with keyframed tracking, so that would be a great addition to PP!

I have a project created in CC 2017 now working on it in CC 2018.

A simple transparent video layer has two lower third  text objects on it. One on the left and one on the right.

Although I use the type tool, the layer and text object in the effects panel and essential graphics panel are selected,
I cannot edit the text. No red selection, no blue rectangle around it either.
With the sliders I can move text around, change size etc but not edit letters and words.

After I try to click on the the text object in the project window,
PP is unresponsive and then creates a new text object Graphic.

So I decide to recreate text in there, and all works fine,
I replace the transparent video layer with the Graphic text object and adjusted its length.

So it appears that there is no backward comparability and all text must be recreated in order to be edited. This instance was an easy case but in other projects this would be a big hassle.
