I keep crashing when I use the text tool.

I upgraded PP to 23 and I can't type any extensive text without it crashing. I was able to add a two word title without a problem, but when I go to add a foot note to a shot everytime I get to the fifth word PP crashes.

I am on a Macbook pro 2019 running Monterey 12.6. I have the 2.3 8 core i9 and 32 gigs of memory. This is a super simple task that I need to get done. What is going on here? PP has crashed 10 times at the same spot.

Hi, saduggan,

Apologies! I had some problems like this with speech-to-text a couple of versions back. Can you check the version of Premiere Pro you are running? You can also install the latest version to see if it fixes the problem.

Thanks,
Kevin

I am upgraded to the latest availble. Premiere Pro 2023 build 63. I tried using the the text tool in an empty sequence and it still crashed. Tried using different fonts, crashes.

Too strange. Are you generating a crash report? If so, can you attach a copy of the crash report or PM it to me? I can pass it along to engineering so we can figure out what's going on there. Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin

Here's the report. I actually just created a project and the only thing I did was type text. Before it crashes it says, A low-level exception occurred in Text (AEVideoFilter:15)

Hi, saduggan,

Others solved the issue by resetting preferences. After running Sync Settings (if you need to sync custom settings), can you try that?

Thanks,
Kevin

I reset preferences and it crashed again, amost always crashes when I type the word irritation. I have included the report. I also made sure I didn't have any Type 1 fonts. It won't let me upload the crash report. It says .dmp files are not supported.

Try one of the suggestions on this thread: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/premiere-crashes-when-typing-in-a-text-field... Like, if it's an OTF, try a TTF style font, or one from Adobe fonts. What happens?

Thanks,
Kevin
