I normally use a dual monitor set up at home. I went home for the weekend and only have one monitor. When I try to import an after effects file the "Import Dialouge Box" pops up with the selection box off screen. I have tried alt+space to try to move the box over which does not work. I have tried deleting the roaming data for adobe. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program. I have reset work spaces. Nothing has worked so far.
Without a second screen, how do I get the dialogue box back?
(FIX) Solution here straight from 2006. Any way to reset Open Dialogue box that's off screen? - Ars Technica OpenForum
See Bryan's solution:
- Alt+Space (opens window options menu)
- Click in Move
- Use keyboard arrows to move the dialog box (if you don't know where it is, keep trying different directions).
My dialog box was way off to the left side I moved pressing Shift and finally saw it. It was a "Import" dialog box.

Hi johns94424267,
It seems like an issue with workspace. Please follow the steps & let us know the status.
1. Go to the following location in the machine
In Windows, C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\12.0 (Or)
In Mac, Documents > Adobe > Premiere Pro > 12.0
2. Rename the 12.0 folder to Old_12.0
3. Launch Premiere Pro, Create a new project(do not open Old projects)
4. Try File > Import & test. And,
5. In Menu bar, Window > Workspace > Uncheck Import Workspace from Projects.
6. Open the old project & check the issue.
Thanks,
Vidya.

Thanks, I attempted that to no avail. I reinstalled the program for a second time hoping it would fix the problem, but no luck.
Update:
I finally got home and got on my second monitor. As it turns out, the dialogue box is just not popping up at all. The "import files" is just sitting there forever. The program isnt frozen, as I can hit escape and everything then runs normally. I found a work around by using the media browser for the moment, but its just a bandaid on a real problem with the interface. This does not fix my problem, so dont mark the thread as fixed please.
Also there has been a new development, my export>media option isnt working any more as well. When I click it nothing happens at all. The program doesnt crash, but the export box never pops up. I had to use media encoder to set up my export options by importing the premiere file. This happened yesterday as i was exporting a DCP file and the program crashed.

I have seen where every now and then, the Windows dialog called up by Premiere Pro will fail to open, leaving the program waiting for input that can never come.

Thank you so much! I was pulling my hair out because of this. Seriously, the next version of Premiere should be strictly fixes of decade-old bugs. I dont even care about new functionalities or anything, as long as I dont have to deal with the same bugs again.

Thank you very much, that's a wonderful solution. How come something so insignificant persists.
