Question

Import h265 files

I have the following problem: Last week, Premiere kept crashing whenever I switched from proxy previews to the original H.265 files in the gallery. Now, the issue has worsened—Premiere crashes as soon as I import any H.265 files.

I've tried everything: I uninstalled all Adobe programs and reinstalled Premiere, reinstalled my GPU drivers, and disabled hardware encoding—nothing works.

Windows always reports the following error:
Faulty module path:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\AdobeInstalledCodecsTier2\4.0\mc_dec_hevc.dll

The strange thing is that I have no issues with these files in DaVinci Resolve—everything runs smoothly there.

System specs:

  • Processor: 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-13900K @ 3.00 GHz
  • RAM: 64GB (63.8GB usable)
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080

Hi @marios94,

Welcome to the forums. We’re happy you’ve reached out. Is it just H.265 files or any file type that is causing issues.  Based on when it started I suspect it's related to this bug. even though it's not exactly the same.  Are your NVIDIA drivers up to date?  What camera/ format are the files?  We need a few more details to try to help with the issue. Please see: How do I write a bug report?  Sorry for the frustration and thanks for reaching out.
