Import MP4 unsupported file

New Here ,
Apr 08, 2025 Apr 08, 2025

I have some video in MP4 format I am trying to import into a Premier Pro project. When I attempt this, only the audio file comes through. For a split second, I get an error message saying the "video compression is not compatible Vp09"  I have many MP4 files already in this project which are working fine. The source for the video was an Iphone or similar device.

Hi,

The "unsupported compression type VP09" error in Premiere Pro means the software doesn't natively support this video codec, so you need to convert the file to a compatible format like ProRes or H.264 using a third-party tool like ShutterEncoder or Handbrake.

Let us know how you go.

I used Shutter Encoder and it worked like a charm. I've spent hours trying to figure this out and you had the solution.  Thanks so much.
