Feb 19, 2020 Feb 19, 2020

Hello eveyone,

when I am trying to import an mp4 file that was recorder with obs premiere pro immediately freezes and say's not responding.

I did everything already clear al the caches clean installed it with the adobe cleantool.

i even deleted it and reinstalled it but nothing works. before I upgraded my pc everything worked fine and i made a lot of videos.

even using older versions of premiere pro doesn't work.

are there some settings wrong or even some settings in obs who are wrong?

what video format is the best to record with?

thank you very much

The problem, in this case, is variable frame rate (VFR). You see, 60 FPS in OBS is not a constant 60 FPS - but it has a very wide variable range (in some scenes, it drops to as little as 15 FPS while in others it rises to 120 FPS). That wide of a variance in the frame rate is extremely stubborn for any NLE to handle. And the wider the variance, the more difficult it is for an NLE to handle. Especially the big-name ones like Premiere Pro which was originally designed for content that was shot on huge video cameras with an exactly constant frame rate.

While it's common practice to blame VFR, that's not the culprit here.  First and foremost: OBS produces honest-to-God CFR files when the end user tells it to.  Secondly, Premiere inhales VFR files just fine; and has for a couple of years now.  I've already gone through with the developers to make sure that's the case 2-3 years ago or so; can't remember when exactly.

Ultimately, let's stop blaming VFR please.

OBS and a few other game recording apps (and some cameras, and some other apps) are doing something to the h.264 files that Premiere's decoder just doesn't like.  It's unclear what that is.  Transcoding to another CODEC, or even re-transcoding to h.264 will work around the issue.  Also: just waiting will work around the issue.  Premiere will import the file, ultimately.  It'll just take a while as only one of the CPU cores is put to work.

AF,

Try Bandicam instead of OBS to record streams. Return with the results.

Thanks,

Kevin
