.ims files overload my hard drive space

Hi

I'm working on an I mac late 2013 27inch i-7 El capitan IOS, latest premiere cc 2017

In the current project that contain mostly .mp4 home videos of a family over the years I'm having this issue that premiere is generating .ims files in about the same size of the footage which is a bit over 70 gigs and if I delete them they will be generated once again and it makes it  impossible to work because it fills my hard drive completely and these files can't be redirected to another hard drive.

anybody knows how to deal with it apart from deleting the files every few minutes?

Oops! My bad. Thanks for the correction! There is no way to change the location of IMS files but they are tiny. They shouldn't fill up 70 GB. Can you file a bug here? Bug Report Form

Thanks,

Rameez

Hey einavdebar,

Sorry for your issue!

Those files are a part of the media cache. In Premiere Pro Media Cache preferences, check if media cache files are being saved next to the original media. You can also change the location of those files to a different folder.

Thanks,

Rameez

Hi

you should know that I can't change location of these files, not the .ims files

Not sure that the IMS files should be that big - they are only details about where media lives etc. Small files you can open with a text editor. But then if 70GB is a lot to you then maybe it's time to get a bigger hard drive!
