Interpret stereo to 2 mono on Timeline?

Is it possible to interpret a stereo audio clip as two mono tracks after I dragged it onto the Timeline? The Audio channels menu on this clip opens inactive lines of Clip Channel Format and Number of Audio Clips...

Go into the Preferences > Timeline > Default Audio Tracks and set Stereo Media to Mono before import.

I know it, but I need to interpret several clips once on the Timeline without changing my Preferences...

You can't change clip audio for clips that have already been brought onto the timeline. You can change a clip's audio interpretation by right-clicking, Modify, Audio Channels, which will change how it behaves each future time you bring in the clip, but won't retroactively change previous clips in a sequence.

That said, isn't super hard to replace. After doing the above, 'Mark Clip' your existing sequence clip to set an In/Out point in the sequence matching that clip's length, then press F to Match Frame. This will mark an In/Out in your source matching what you did previously. Then make sure your tracks are patched properly so only the new audio goes where you want and overwrite edit it in. Now your newly interpreted audio will be edited into where the clip was already.

Why is this like this? Why can't you change the audio after the fact. It used to be possible without having to replace every clip in the sequence. I can change every aspect of footage to include raw interpretation metadata after the fact, but I can't make the audio mono unless i interpret the clip and then add it back to the timeline? Rediculous.
