Is there a way to change volume only for the souce monitor?

I need help with this

I need a way to change the volume of the source monitor, but not change anything with the audio. For example, right now I'm working adding soundtrack to a video, but everytime I want to listen to the musics I have available, I need to turn down my PC volume because the musics are so loud in the source monitor. Once I drag them in the timeline, they are fine since I'm changing the track volume.

It's been a problem for so long working like this. I found a tutorial, but in changing the volume of the source monitor, it was changing the volume of the clip after adding in the timeline. I just need to change the volume so the music don't blast in my headset while I'm choosing the best part.

Thanks

None that I know of. Personally, I'd select a bunch of clips in the bin, and 'normalize' them to say -12dB or something like that, which would be about the 'base' place I'd want them on a timeline anyways.

And then it's easy to nuke the effects on anything used on the timeline.

Although it would be nice to have audio 'loudness' controls I suppose ...

Neil

Thank you, Neil.

Normalize them all before working on them is probably a good solution since there is no apparent way to control the volume

sounds like this is just a matter of lowering your computer volume. There is no volume control in the source monitor. If the audio is loud.... lower your volume.... then just make sure the correct levels you are seeking are good in the timeline.

But then when listening to my timeline, the audio is too low. That's the whole point of the question, I need to constant change my computer volume because the sources are way louder than the timeline

And when I'm adding multiple songs to my timeline, that slow down the process a lot

Which leads me to wonder where the audio sources are coming from, if they're that "hot". Or ... whether you run really quiet audio on the sequence.

Typical audio is set to normalize or have peaks somewhere between -17dB and -3dB, with the latter being a pretty unusually 'hot' setting. Broadcasters, YouTube, all have their required limits.

Hi Neil and Mark (going to answer both because you two said similar things)

I usually have my main audio to -3 db max, but it's very rare to have my client peaking in the audio. Now the track volume for music can change because we do gaming videos and use the soundtrack from games, sometimes I get musics that peak at -3 db, sometimes they are way quieter. When these soundtrack peak at -3db in source, that sound way too loud compared to what I'm listening in the timeline with my client speaking

For example, if I listen to his recording, both on source and timeline, thats fine, they are the same level, but music sound way louder with all the instruments

Thanks for helping

I usually set my audio to exact center when creating videos. That should be a good level that I feel my videos should still sound good at. So if its TOO loud in the source panel and TOO low in the timeline... it sounds like your timeline audio should be adjusted. It should sound okay at medium audio levels.... I usually set my main audio to -6db. Which should still sound rather loud.
