Keeping the same resolution on export

New Here ,
Dec 29, 2019 Dec 29, 2019

I am editing a 1 Hr. 4K video taken on a cell phone. There are about 9 different clips, some in portrait but most in landscape. I'm using Premiere 2019. In editing I can adjust how I see the video by adjusting the scale and bringing the video size to 50 or 70%. I have managed to get the video to be full 16:9 or close to it throughout the timeline. I was hoping that it would export the same as I was seeing it in editing. It didn't and went back to how it looked originally which is a small square on a 16:9 screen. Is there a way to fix this? thanks,

OK, and in Premiere Pro is the Program Monitor Zoom level set to Fit?

No, Depending on the clip it is 50%. Fit brings it back from filling the screen to only filling the full horizontal centre of the screen with black areas above and below.

The monitor needs to be set to fit, unless you have a very specific reason for not doing so. Fit shows you the full sequence canvas you are working with. The zoom level only changes the appearance of the monitor, it does not rescale or change the clips themselves - or the scaling of clips relative to the sequence canvas.

To actually adjust the scale and postion of the clips, you need to select the clip on the timeline, then once selected go the Effect Controls Panel and adjust the scale and position setting in the Motion section:

Do this test. Set the monitor to fit and leave it at that setting. Adjust a couple of clips to fill the monitor. Export that adjusted section, the exported file should match what you are seeing in the Program monitor.

Got it. I did hat but not when it was set to fit so I wasn't seeing the correct results. I'll change that now and post here. Thanks.

Adjusting the scale does not expand the frame just the image. I can go to 110% max without the video image moving outside of the frame. Adjusting the position justs adjusts the position of the image inside the frame. I can't make the frame larger than the existing 1/4 of the whole panel at the centre. This image goes about 25% higher.Music 3.png

Yes. because you created a timeline that has a vertical aspect ratio 9x16.

Since you made that choice, you need to fit all the material within that frame.

Is that not what you want to do?

In the first shot of guitarist, the video is filling frame. the light gray area around the video you see is nothing, you are seeing it because Premiere was designed to display 16x9 imagery. In the second image, the deep black area is the portion of the frame that has no video content.

If your source material is UHD 2160x3840 portrait material, it should fill the portrait aspect timeline without doing anything. If you drop a horizontal shot 3840x2160 material on to that timeline, you will need to rescale and position to choose the area of the horizontal frame you want to display within the portrait aspect ratio.

According to youtube there is no way to expand cell phone footage and export it to 16:9 full screen.
