live capture inadvertent 'esc' and lost file

I was capturing a live performance today with the latest Premiere Pro 13.0.1 build 13 and captured a little over an hour of a live performance directly to a removable drive. When I stopped the capture there was a long delay until the file naming window came up. During that time I hit <esc> to see if it was stuck on something.. well the window finally did come up and the save dialog disappeared. The whole file was GONE!!

It seems as though there has to be some cache somewhere but I've done a pretty fair amount of searching and still have not been able to find the file. I subsequently captured 'act II' of the performance and everything was fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Are you sure that you’re using Adobe Premiere to capture the footage? Premiere is designed to work with pre-recorded footage and only “captures” from pre-recorded tape Or digital video files. which is imported into software.

If you did capture pre-recorded video files through Premiere they should be in a folder by where your project is saved. (By default.)

Thanks for the reply! It was through a firewire camera and so I had been capturing some of these performances for several years this way. The scratch disks were all set to the project file folder. It is just disappointing that it had worked so well for these type of captures until today. It just seems so odd that by just hitting an escape key it would totally eliminate the file from the system.

It is in a mac file system. While Premiere was 'thinking' and spinning I did see the capture file in the finder window. After the saving was cancelled by the esc key it just totally vanished!!

Interesting. Not really what Premiere is designed for but kudos on the ingenuity.

If you open up you Capture panel and click settings you can check where your Capture Locations was set to. Perhaps you might find something in that directory.

Thanks for the reply! Since all the locations were set to the project folder, I'm in the process of using a media recovery tool on the drive to see if there is anything there to recover. It's gonna take a while though from the looks of things. Still hoping for the best but prepared for the worst!
