I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask about this, but here goes…
I have a Dell Precision M6500 64 bit computer that has an IEEE 1394 Firewire connection I had used for capturing video through Premiere
Pro. The video camera I used is a Sony DCR-HC52 which used a MiniDV tape. I “upgraded” that computer to Windows 10 and installed Premiere Pro CC and Photoshop CC (as well as some other Adobe products). Photoshop continues to work fine.
The problem is this: Premiere Pro CC no longer recognizes the Firewire connection. Upon further investigation, I found the IEEE 1394 is no
longer even showing up in the Device Manager (nor is my SD card reader, which has also stopped working). I’ve spent
HOURS online trying to figure out how to correct this and nothing seems to work.
I have a new (< 1yr old) Dell XPS 15 that I was planning to switch everything over to, but the problem is getting the video off the MiniDV tapes! At this point the only
solution I can come up with is using a Windows 7 computer with a Firewire connection.
Sooooo, here are my questions:
First – is there any way you know of to “capture” the video from the MiniDV tapes using my new computer? It has a Thunderbolt connection
which I have hooked to my docking station and monitor. I know HDMI runs “the wrong way”.
Second – this is pretty drastic I know, but drastic times… I could use the Restore Windows 7 function found in the control panel and hope that would somehow reset the
Firewire port (so to speak). What do you think of that? I’m pretty well at a loss at this point, so I’m open to
suggestions. Thanks.
Bill
