Lost Sequence in Project Files

Community Beginner ,
Jun 27, 2022 Jun 27, 2022

I cannot find a sequence with the completed video I edited. I have looked in the auto-save and original project file but cannot seem to locate the sequence that contains the edited video.

Is there a way to narrow down its location based on the exported video?

I did this yes. It's interesting because there are older sequences and sequences I made, but none of them with the updates or changes that ended up creating the final video I exported. Just earlier on in the process

Have you searched for the lost sequence in Premiere Pro? Go to the Project panel and just type sequence in the search box and all of the sequences in your project will show up.

If/when you find it, double click on it to open it again.

Make a habit of making a Save A Copy to a different drive after each session.

FAQ: When to use "Save A Copy," or "Save As," or just "Save".

You wrote earlier "Is there a way to narrow down its location based on the exported video?" and it can be done if you did send the export from Premiere Pro to Adobe Media Encoder via the Queue button in the Export Settings dialog.

It is also possible if you just hit the Export button.

For Queue:

Each time i export using the Queue button a copy of the project file is created and saved here on Windows: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Temp

You can open that project file in Premiere Pro, but be aware of that it will be stripped down and unused media, etc will be removed from the project. But you will get back your timeline.

For Export:

Create a brand new project and import the exported file. Select the file in the Project panel and go to Edit > Edit Original. Now the project that were used to export the file will open if the project file is still available on your computer.
