I made the mistake of upgrading my Mac Studio to MacOS Tahoe, and now Premiere is practically impossible to use. Playback is choppy with the program choking on any timeline with more than one clip / effect, and simple edits have crazy input lag. I know how to revert back to Sequioa, but I don't have a Time Machine backup before Tahoe so it seems pointless.
Based on last year's Sequioa release, does anyone have an idea of when Adobe would release a patch to support the new MacOS? Will it be this year since they normally only release 5-6 updates and we're already at 25.5? Anyone else struggling with this and found any workarounds?
DON'T UPDATE YET IF YOU HAVEN'T
Thanks for the details. Is hardware accelerated decoding enabled under Premiere Pro > Settings > Media?

Hi,
Thanks for the message and welcome to the forum. I have read that others are having similar issues. Can you try deleting the media cache? Press Shift at launch to get the Reset Options dialog box. There you can delete all the media cache. That may help. Let me know if it does. Sorry for the problem.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi, yes I tried deleting my media cache already. Still running into the same issues.

Thanks for confirming that. The performance seems to be fine on Tahoe at my end. Would you mind confirming if this is happening with any specific media type/effect or all of them?

Any project using Insta360 / Action Cam footage is really struggling, even when those clips are disabled. But nromal H.264 and ProRes files are struggling in other projects that don't use Insta360 footage.
I'm on a 2022 Mac Studio - M1 Ultra 128 GB RAM

Having all the same issues with Premiere 25.3.0, even tried downloading v24, and v25.0 - nothing changes, they all have horrible performance now. Can confirm accelerated decoding is enabled as well as all my settings from before are unchanged.
I have a few audio tracks and 2 video tracks for a 3 min video only in a rough cut stage. It lags and freezes constantly, if I try to ripple or roll any clips it hangs for a long time. It's extremely frustrating and borderline unusable. This has to be fixed asap.

Sumeet, thank you so much. This worked for me!
I saw another reply saying otherwise, but Premiere's overall performance was immediately improved and back to normal.

I also have the exact same issue. I've tried everything suggested.

Same problem here. Cleaning cache improved performance but only for a few hours. Now i am back to unbearable levels of performance. hardware acceleration was enabled, that doesn't make a difference. It's unbelievable that having the beta version of the OS for months, Adobe doesn't manage to keep their products up to date.

Did you see the comment someone made about turning drive access back on in system settings for premiere and media encoder? it seems to have turned itself off when installing Tahoe or the newest premiere version. Sure enough for me i checked and it was off. turned it back on, restarted and it's been acting normal again. that answer should be flagged as the actual answer. hope it works for you

I think I was able to finally get it to open, but it is extremely laggy. I have proxies on and set to playback in 1/2 speed and I cant watch a clip in full. Makes it super hard to edit not knowing what the clip looks like. Any idea how to solve that? 😞

did you check the mac settings to allow premiere access mentioned above? you have to turn it on again it turned itself off. that fixed it for me and others

My adobe premiere pro is now not opening at all. It tells me "Adobe premiere pro 2025 is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the trash" I have made sure all updates are done on my mac and my premiere. Ive tried deleting the app and installing an older version. I've tried holding down shift when launching. Nothing is working.

Yep have all the same issues. This is impossible. Been thinking about switching to Resolve....I think the time is now.

hate to break it to you but I already tried that a while back and decided it's not the solution I hoped it would be. Resolve is cool esp for color, and it has some editing features I use from time to time depending on the project. But it has a lot of bugs too that are very annoying and I can get a lot more done in Premiere quickly than Resolve. You'll likely be just as frustrated in Resolve just for different reasons, imo.

Wait wait, you have to enable permissions again. It happened to me and I freaked the **** out.
Settings>Privacy & Security> Give Premiere permission (should be there on that page upon opening it).

just checked my settings and that permission was turned off for me as well. turned it back on and restarted but won't be able to experiment until later. Really hoping that is the solution!!

Yep - turn that on, it fixed it for me. It might happen here and there, but just remember to reanable those permissions.
Also - if you ever want to go davinci, look up a workflow of editing and cutting in Premiere Pro, XML file to Resolve, do your colour grading, Export at the highest settings and bring back to Premiere pro to finish off audio/FX/transitions. It sounds tedious, but it's great for those important projects.

just flagging this again as the actual solution instead of the one currently listed which did nothing.

Hmmm weird. I would try open up premiere, let it fail, then navigate to :
>System Settings>Privacy & Security>Scroll down to 'Security'
Where it says 'Allow applications from..', it should show Premiere Pro. That's where you would make your system say 'trust' or something along those lines.
I really hope that helps. Otherwise, Resolve it is!

I noticed my hardware acceleration was turned off after updating? Maybe try that? Otherwise, it sucks, but perhaps the video format in which the clips were shot in might need to change. For me, I shoot on a sony a7s3 and shooting on XAVC S-I 4K is the best to work with, but, file size is larger.

I second the performance issues. Never had problems scrubbing through a timeline before, even with 4K video (on 1/2 playback resolution). Now I have to waste time making proxies all the time. Don't do Tahoe folks!
